Pirates: Yacht to make landfall in Somalia (Obama surrenders; no hostage rescue)
KABC ^ | 2/20/11 | John Hartung

Pirates are now saying the yacht hijacked from a SoCal couple will make landfall in Somalia on Sunday, which may lessen the chance of a rescue at sea.

The pirates took control of the yacht Quest on Friday in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Somalia.

The Quest belongs to Jean and Scott Adam, two members of the Del Rey Yacht Club in Marina Del Rey. The Newport Beach couple has been sailing around the world since 2004 on their yacht, posting updates on their website. The trip was part adventure, part ministry, as they handed out Bibles along the way.

Two other Americans were captured along with Jean and Scott Adams, though they have not yet been identified.

"...I'm really hoping Zero is doing something in the background to facilitate their release..."

Sorry. He's got MO and the kids out sucking up more tax dollars discovering skiing. 0 probably had Larry in (and out) last night for some "high discussions".

Just no time for Americans being held by his animal relatives.

how many years have the pirates been doing this, and how could they not know, and why did they think they could move through those waters with impunity

too damn stupid

They are guilty of stupidity but they should NOT be tortured and raped and killed by the muslim pirates for their stupidity. These 2 couples need to be saved and rescued from the Somali animals because they are Americans.

At this time, Somali pirates are holding an estimated 660 people hostage. They have been known to torture their captives and use them as human shields.

People can criticize the judgment of anyone sailing in that area, but some coordinated international action should have been launched against these pirates a few years back. It's beyond pathetic that a bunch of thugs in rubber boats have been allowed to keep this up for several years.

The number of hard hearts in these postings is surprising. They apparently think nobody should do missionary work?

Did anyone think BO would lift a finger to save Christian missionaries?

Thanks. I thought I’d mistakenly stumbled into DU.

“These 2 couples need to be saved and rescued from the Somali animals because they are Americans.”

Actions have consequences. And, if one looks at it from your point of view, perhaps these captives will show these animals the light.

These couples are in grave danger and Obama needs to give the order to rescue them. He must not let the pirates bring them on shore.

The number of hard hearts in these postings is surprising.

My sense is that the pack of wild curs invading FR is membered by adolescents who cannot spell, think or function as moral humans. The ZOT needs to be applied in cases of violation of FR tenets. Vicious sentiments have no place on this forum.

“I have pondered the possibility that they purposely put themselves in harms way so to improve their chances of being kidnapped.”

“So you're saying these 2 couples intentionally agreed to be captured and raped and tortured by muslim pirates so they can sell their story if they are released alive?”

Sigh..., I was merely wondering, as in my comment “I have pondered the possibility”. Also, I acknowledged up front that it was my dark side that was considering this. After-all, it's happened before, many times. One event comes to mind without bothering to research the subject is the “Balloon Boy” caper a few years ago. Do you remember this scam? Father fakes his son getting loose in a balloon, putting son at high risk, in hopes that his 15 minutes of fame would lead to a reality show? Remember?

Look like a couple of ex-hippies in the picture. Why would anyone in their right mind sail a private yacht in this area? Oh, they are from So Cal. Never mind.

Here’s some vicious sentiments fer ya:

Any Somali spotted at sea with a weapon of any kind, DIES!

Somali coastal pirate cities will be BOMBED FLAT!

‘Course, as noted earlier, it would take a Reagan in the WH to put teeth in them sentiments.

For years the couple have attended St. Monica Catholic Church, where they were known as devoted parishioners, said Msgr. Lloyd Torgerson. Jean Adam sang in the choir, and Scott Adam, who once pursued a doctorate in theology, often wanted to discuss the Scriptures. “They are great people, wonderfully attentive, and came to this community each Sunday when they were in town.”

But friends say the Bibles were not the purpose of their trips. “They did bring Bibles with them, but they’re not doing a proselytizing mission,” Stolnitz, 57, said. “They distributed Bibles to Christian churches and communities who appreciated them. They’re not out there trying to convert — they’re just being nice people. It’s just part of what they do as their sailing adventure.”

There is a big difference in President Reagan and obama. Also, there is a big difference between those who support the way of life that President Reagan supported and those who worship and claim obama as their missiah. [White Liberals].

The two names, Reagan and obama, should never be mentioned in the same sentence, or breath.

I’ve noticed that every time something awful happens, there’s a crowd on FR that immediately launches into blame-the-victim mode and spews real cruelty and hatred - of the victims, not of the evil people who actually did the deed.

Maybe this couple should have been more prudent, but the idea that Muslim piracy is just one of those unavoidable things and we should all tailor our lives and travels to accomodate it is ridiculous and cowardly.

The US should come to the rescue of these people, if only to make the point that we are not going to let the seas be dominated by predatory marauders. They interfere not only with innocent tourists but have gotten so bold they are actually hampering ocean shipping, and the longer we tolerate it, the more lawless the seas will become.

Wisconsin is calling. Obama can handle only one ‘crisis’ at a time, and can’t let this one go to waste.
