NJ gov. cuts more than the budget: his poundage

TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has cut more than the state budget in his first year in office.

The heavyset head-of-state has also dropped a few notches in his belt.

Exactly how much he's lost he's isn't saying, but his suits have been getting noticeably baggy.

The 48-year-old Republican credits his recent weight loss to eating better and working with a trainer three mornings a week.

He started working with a trainer in June 2009, but for the past year says he has been more consistent.

Good for the guv. If I had his job I'd probably be driven to drink way too much.

Battling the unions, special interests and progressive airheads is hard, calorie-burning work! Go, Chris, go!

He does look better. It’s tough when you’re as big as he is...there’s a long way to go. Glad he’s working on it. He’s young and so talented, and has kids. We need him around for years to come.

I heard someone on a radio talk show say to watch the governor's weight. If he drops considerable poundage, it might be an indication he's considering running for higher office. That doesn't mean it's true, but I don't think he could run for higher office UNLESS he drops a good amount of weight. Stay tuned.

As a resident of Georgia and the Atlanta metro, I would like to apologize for this drivel that passes as new from the local fishwrap....How about they pay attention to budget cutting, putting the teachers union in check and tax restraint...no we gotta focus on a fat guy on slimfast...<< shaking head >>

Good for him! Lead by example. Now let’s get this state’s economy going once again!

Hmmm. Fuel for speculation that he really IS running for the presidency.

Btw, for those of you who think Christie is the answer to our prayers (this includes you, Ann Coulter): He isn't.

Those of us live on Christie's home turf (Morris County NJ) know Christie well, and we know he has shown a serious lack of character in the past. I'm not talking about infidelity, but other stuff that would come out in a presidential campaign and would TURN OFF a significant number of voters.

Also consider a few of Christie's current positions:

1. Christie is NOT friendly to Tea Party candidates. He did not lift a finger for some fine conservative candidates in NJ last fall, e.g. Anna Little. He also supported and campaigned for MIKE CASTLE in DELAWARE.

2. Christie favors "comprehensive immigration reform," aka amnesty and open borders. He is currently permitting our taxpayer-supported county college system to admit illegals.

3. Worst of all: Christie is promoting a radical-Islamist supporting Muslim lawyer to a judgeship. I am not making this up!

So Christie is not God's gift to conservatives. I'm not saying he's not doing some good in NJ. But he is over-rated, and is bound to disappoint.

Actually even if they meant this to be a slam at him, it isn’t. Haters have been making fun of his weight for a long time, and many supporters know his weight is really dangerous for his health, so this is really good news and praise to him for accomplishing something that is very hard for many people.

I’m happy to hear this.

I just hope that Michelle won’t jump in and take credit when it begins to show!

The heavyset head-of-state has also dropped a few notches in his belt.

One can tell that he's a Republican.

If he were a Democrat he would have dropped a few notches in his hat.

I’m not a huge fan of Dr.Laura, but I heard her make a statement about losing weight that has stuck with me. She says the best way to lose weight is:

EAT LESS AND MOVE MORE!

Works for me!!

This is actually a dig at the local paper, which CAN produce great journalism when they WANT to...We know that Christie is doing good things in NJ, but that gets secondary notice as they would rather run a puff piece than show how we in Georgia can fix our budget mess...
