N.Korea 'Importing Animal Feed for Human Consumption

'North Korea is reportedly importing animal feed grain from China to distribute on the market for human consumption as the regime struggles with food shortages.

According to Radio Free Asia, Pyongyang gave the animal feed to its military as well as to merchants, bringing down the surging cost of rice.

A source in North Korea said the feed is commonly darker in color than normal rice and is often mixed with chaff and stones.

The U.S.-based broadcaster said lower prices caused by several natural disasters in China last year allowed the North to import a vast quantity of low-quality animal feed for its people to consume, stirring mixed responses from North Koreans.

Now we hear the news that grain price(especially rice) is set to jump this year, which will have dire effects on N. Korea. Everybody would be busy stocking up grains to save their own countrymen first. Not much left to bribe N. Korea to stay quiet.

They treat their people worse than animals, so why not feed them like animals

Cant they just eat grass like was reported a few years back...?

Oops, forgot that winter thing...

The pigs are scared about the middle east unrest, so they give you dog food... Until the snow melts and you can eat what remains of the lawn.

N.Korea Importing Animal Feed for Human Consumption

How long before the scumbags in the MSM begin referring to the North Korean government as “conservative”?

Ah, the further wonders of Socialism!

Is there anything it can’t achieve?

darker in color than normal rice and is often mixed with chaff and stones.

Probably still an inprovement over the grass and twigs and stuff they usually have to scavenge for in their socialist paradise.

>> lower prices caused by several natural disasters <<

That statement is crazy. Natural disasters make the price of agricultural commodities INCREASE, not go lower.

It seems to say that flood damaged China’s rice crop before it fully ripen, and glut of damaged crop lowered the price of animal feed in China, which NK regime decided to import. Lots of details left out in the report. Bad writing as you have said.

>> darker in color than normal rice <<

They must be referring to what we call “brown rice.” It’s not only an improvement over grass and twigs, but it’s also an improvement — in a nutritional sense — over the white rice of a “normal” East Asian diet.

Brown rice definitely is better for the health than white rice, even though it’s more difficult to cook and it sometimes tastes funny. So there’s genuine irony in this situation.

(And speaking of “irony,” brown rice has almost twice the iron content of white rice!)
