President Obama to hit Bay Area Thursday for jobs session with high tech leaders

President Barack Obama will visit the Bay Area Thursday to meet with high tech business leaders -- a session that will stress jobs, innovation, green tech and education themes, White House sources tell the Chronicle.

So far, no information on where the meeting will be held -- or whether any part of it will be public -- but here's what we know from a White House official: the session is "a part of our ongoing dialogue with the business community on how we can work together to win the future, strengthen our economy, support entrepreneurship, and get the American people back to work.''

This will be Obama's first visit since his Oct. 21 trip to the state to raise money for the Democratic National Committee and to campaign for Democratic candidates including U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer, then-gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown and Lt. Gov. candidate Gavin Newsom, who also won his seat. That visit was also tech-heavy in themes: he met with Steve Jobs, and starred at a pricey fundraiser at the Palo Alto home of Google honcho Marissa Mayer.

A guy who's never even run a hot dog cart is having a meeting with highly successful major business executives. Let me guess: He will be doing most of the talking.

I’m sure he’ll squeeze in a $20k per plate fundraiser while he’s there.

It is not a matter of can’t. The problem the gov needs to address is to make it more beneficial for companies to hire here instead of India and China.

Will their anybody there with the wisdom and courage to say laissez-nous faire? Laissez faire!!!!!
According to historical legend, the phrase stems from a meeting in about 1680 between the powerful French finance minister Jean-Baptiste Colbert and a group of French businessmen led by a certain M. Le Gendre. When the eager mercantilist minister asked how the French state could be of service to the merchants and help promote their commerce, Le Gendre replied simply “Laissez-nous faire” (”Leave us be”, lit. “Let us do”).

In todays SF Gate:

Tim Lincecum (baseball star) isn’t the only local celebrity sprouting new facial hair.

Oakland City Councilwoman Rebecca Kaplan - the city’s leading lesbian politico - has begun sporting a goatee and mustache.

Obama will just go to Silicon Valley and complain we are not importing enough Indians and illegals to replace American workers.

That is the only jobs policy he has had so far.

Yet another junket for Obama, to continue to avoid doing any real work in Washington. Kick back on a cross-country flight on AF1, gladhand a bunch of hand-picked lefty executives like the Google guys, maybe get in a round of golf, do a little fund-raising, and then kick back on the return trip. Bet the guy doesn’t do more than 15 minutes of actual work on these trips.

That's even harsh looking for a dude. Obummer wouldn't be interested if Larry Sinclair is his type.

When I first sold auto insurance it was with a small shop that had bad drivers, one “lady” came in Bobbie Borilla, never forget the name, she too had a goatee and looked like she could whoop all of us, she walked out of the office and my boss yelled - Bobbie Boom Boom Borilla, like he was announcing a fighter - it still makes me laugh, it has been 15 years since I have seen a bearded woman.

President Barack Obama will visit the Bay Area Thursday to meet with high tech business leaders

You'd think in 2011 he'd be able to save the cost of a trip and try GoToMeeting.

McNealy:

He’s right.

What he didn’t touch on was the surfeit of H-1B workers that the industry keeps clamoring for, claiming that US workers aren’t “smart” enough.
