I doubt it’s the aluminum cans. The coke from a can or a plastic bottle tastes the same.

We found some two year old coke in plastic bottles at work, and it basically rotted the bottoms out. Did you ever put a steak into a pan of Coke? The meat will rot away after a few days. It makes a great meat tenderizer.

The original version did have cocaine in it. It was finally banned in the 30’s I think. They used to advertise it as “Mother’s little helper” or something like that because the cocaine gave you a lift. I guess now its the sugar. LOL!
