Back in my day, we learned that Legislative Branch passed laws, the Judicial Branch interpreted law, and the Executive Branch executed [congressional] law.

Such a simple concept at one time. I also hear the phrase “separation of powers,” but rarely “checks-and-balances” anymore. Hmmmmmm.
