"Yaweh" "Yahweh" "Yahuweh" etc. cannot be spelled from a yod, a hey, a vav, and a hey. A hey cannot be silent in the middle of a word, and to get a "uw" sound together would require an additional letter, which is not in the Name.

Stick to English. Your Hebrew sucks.

If Muslims go nuts over cartoons depicting Mohammad, why aren’t they on a jihad against whoever perpetrated such a fraud on their holy place?

“Your Hebrew is not good” Perhaps you should brush up on your Hebrew yourself, friend. Contrary to what you assert, the Hebrew word for “Lord” is NOT spelled alef-resh-dalet-vav-nun. My years of formal training in biblical Hebrew are mostly long gone, but I can tell you there is NO “resh” in either Adonai or the Tetragrammaton, two Hebrew words which are translated “Lord” by Jewish people (as you know, the Tetragrammaton is read as “Lord” out of respect by the Jewish people - google it is you have need to be refreshed on this Biblical Hebrew 101 concept).

Why do people feel compelled to speak authoritively on that which they apparently know very little about. Adonai is one of the most important Hebrew words that a first year student memorizes.

Theories of what it was range from...

Why do you find a problem with that? I think too many people are trying to parse words these days in order to fuel some sort of political angst they may be experiencing........

Chilling out and relaxation seem to be a thing of the past..............

You are correct. Funny. I included a resh because I was spelling it out in English letters. In Hebrew, a resh is called a "proud dalet" because it does not have the mark of humility. Ad-nai is spelled alef-dalet-nun-yod.

Next time I will type slower. Regardless, "yahweh" is not "L-rd" in Hebrew nor is a yod, a hey, a vav, and a heh.

in Psalms 110:2 it is spelled Ad-nai is spelled alef-dalet-nun-vav-yod for "my L-rd" - otherwise it is alef-dalet-vav-nun sofit [אָדֹון]

An understandable mistake. In any event, as a rule English translations do not use “Jehovah” or “Yahweh,” but rather translate the Tetragrammaton as “Lord.” “Jehovah” would in any event be incorrect (based on the Latin “J” pronunciation); if one insists on applying the vowels of Adonai to the Tetragrammaton, a closer rendering would be something like “Yahova(h).” But I’m no scholar; only a passable student at my apex...

Since the resh is the "proudest letter" of the alef bet perhaps it was a "heavenly hand" that inserted it for me... showing disapproval of my pride?

As you said, most English translators use "L-RD" (all caps) in circumlocution of the four holy letters; an oral practice from the days of the Second Temple, and memorialized by the ben Asher scribes in what is now known as the Masoretic text.

Shalom

Sad, but I had to read TZfat’s snicker under his referenced line before I got it! And then I snickered, too!

Pride - the deadliest enemy of us all...

On a lesser note, “circumlocution” is indeed the correct term to use in relation to how the Tetragrammaton is rendered.

All the best.

Interesting- Megyn Kelley just did a segment on this. I hadn’t seen it until now- it’s pretty wild - it zooms back up like a rocket.

I haven’t read the whole thread so don’t know if this mystery has been solved yet but thought you’d be interested it’s now gone mainstream cable.
