CAIRO, Feb 5 (Reuters) - Saboteurs blew up a pipeline that runs through Egypt's North Sinai and supplies gas to Israel, state television and other sources reported on Saturday.
State TV quoted an official as saying that the "situation is very dangerous and explosions were continuing from one spot to another" along the pipeline.
"It is a big terrorist operation", a state TV reporter said.
A security source said the Egyptian army closed the main source of gas supplying the pipeline.
"The armed forces and the authorities managed to close the main source of flow and are trying to control the fires," the source said.
Israel's National Infrastructure Ministry said it was looking into the incident.
Egypt is a modest gas exporter, using pipelines to export gas to Israel and also to Jordan and other regional states. It also exports via liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities on its north coast, but those are not in the Sinai region.
State television said the pipeline that was attacked supplied both the Israeli and Jordanian gas lines.

Does anyone really think this entire Egyptian problem is anything less than an Iranian-Hamas-Jihadist attempt to take over the country, then Jordan, and then attack Israel?
Not a huge deal but it makes good press and probably looks good at night.
I’d guess the agitators felt they weren’t getting their way so have to throw additional tantrums.
Tear your country down so you can rebuild it! That’s a plan. Make it so no one will want to do business or invest- sure fire deal. Hard to eat sand, I think.
But was it ‘inspirational’ sabotage?
Somebody probably used mean words, and made them do it!
Blow up the pipeline to Israel and Jordan (down stream) loses its gas supply -Reuters begrudgingly states last. Geography is funny like that.
Terrorists can do the same thing here except they work within and only need to upset the computer programming, compressor relays or sabotage the field input stations, basically turning the pipeline off.
Makes a person wonder how many Moslems are working in our power and fuel grids.
This shot was taken from El-Arish about 40 miles away.
Bedouin tribesmen of the Sinai Peninsula attempted to blow up the pipeline last July as tensions intensified between them and the Egyptian government, which they accuse of discrimination and of ignoring their plight.
Hussein throwing Mubarak under the bus was a classic Carter asswipe move.
"I think it is clear, the people have spoken, the gas pipeline must go. And by 'go' we mean 'yesterday'. Let the Jews get their energy source from somewhere else. Egypt's young people know best."
“Does anyone really think this entire Egyptian problem is anything less than an Iranian-Hamas-Jihadist attempt to take over the country, then Jordan, and then attack Israel?”
Apparently it only takes some cold weather to do it. Stay warm New Mexico.
>>>>Terrorists can do the same thing here

Actually, that almost certainly came about because of EPA regulations that have led the pipeline companies to replace gas turbines with electric motors. In a widespread power outage (think big ice storm), you lose your gas supply, too.
I’m OK with calling creating conditions that lead to people literally freezing in the dark, “terrorism”.
Watching the middle east slide further into radical islamic rule will be priceless.
The next several years will be an interesting time for Europe and the rest of the world as things become radically different.
America is blessed with the protection of two oceans and vast natural resources to begin it development of its own method of survival and providing energy and commodity needs.
Perhaps we can impeach Zero this year and get an early start on recover of our self reliance.
FNC just reported the blast was caused by a gas leak.
Can’t wait for the MSM to blame this on “pro-Mubarak” forces, as always.
In this case, that's probably true...
So how supportive of regime change “yesterday” is Obama today?
The news is not comforting this from last night and this AM, a good cup (full) of coffee is. Still attempting to get the hot coffee to mouth is difficult. Thanks for info.
should be missing this in sentence.
Nothing less and it's being pushed by our Muzlim in Chief...
This could get uglier real fast.
Our big 0 lifted the US ban on the MB leader. It seems obvious to me whose side America has chosen. Now we’ve leRnes he gave over sensitive info about tridents to the Russians . He’s defying court orderson gulf drilling and will surely do so on healthcare. We havea huge problem and we better start speaking up while we still can.
‘Course, the Palis get THEIR gas from it too, but I guess their ‘brothers’ didn’t think about THAT.
I heard a similar report except it was an accident at a pumping station. The trouble is I don't trust any of the media reports anymore. The media spin is so heavy on virtually everything that they could be suppressing a terrorist report.
This is the same media that squashed the VP assassination attempt story for days and days and still isn't running with it.
At what moment in time, will you be celebrating the day when they eventually come over here to destroy us?
The Iranians don’t waste any time.
Yes, it was a gas leak.........the one that happened after the RPG hit it.
What if it wasn’t the Egyptians, but Palis, Hizbollah or Hamas operating under the guise of Egypt’s unrest?
Probably got their “pro-democracy” bombs from Billy and Bernadine during their most recent visit.
Israel I pray for thee to show wisdom.
Israel I pray for thee to show restraint.
Israel, I pray you do the right thing!
What's next for Egypt? Will they stop exploring and drilling for gas and oil next? Will the next step be nationalizing their industry? Massive regulation of their banks and health care?
When they completely stop their energy industry in the Sinai, maybe they can rename it Anwar (sic).
Fox has updated their article on their website to say the blast was either caused by a gas leak, or an explosive device. Officials in the area claim it was sabotage.
News is so unreliable right now, I give up. But there’s no question the “gas leak” explanation doesn’t cut it.
(1) you’d think the President of the USA could get a watch band that fits, and
(2) most lefties I know (I am one) wear their watch on their right hand.
Exactly! or the limpit charge.
NON-leaking gas just doesn’t explode ;-)
Reports now (BBC) of an explosion at a church in Rafah
The one thing the Egyptians had better start asking themselves is:
The Radical Islamist are destroying Egypts sources of income, food etc.
Ask the Islamist HOW they intend to re-establish that source of income?
I would be willing to bet they will hold the Suez canal as hostage. Pay a huge fee or go around.
To be honest if Obama sold US gas to Mexico way under market price, and then we had to buy it back because of a shortage (i.e. New Mexico) at a 12 billion profit to Mexico I wouldn’t be happy about it. Could be some lingering hard feelings.
Obama spoke up vociferously this week
to "defend" the terrorists Hamas, and the terrorist Moslem Brotherhood,
just as he has protected the Iranian
Imams from the enslaved Persian people.
Obama is nothing but silent as Jews and Christians are murdered
and their houses of worship burned and bombed
most often by none other than Obama's own supporters and agents.

I think it was a hate crime, the worst kind of crime imaginable... < / sarc >
He looks like a 70’s comedy lounge lizard in that photo.
I guess it’s fitting, since he is acting like we are in the 70’s again with Carter-II, energy crisis, inflation, etc.
