The wave continues to break.
With Facebook and Twitter providing the organizational fuel, anti-government demonstrations are sweeping across much of the Arab world. The next big test comes Saturday, when protests are planned to take place in Syria.
In anticipation of what might be a repeat of the unrest seen in Egypt and Tunisia, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad signaled that he understood the need for change.
"If you didn't see the need of reform before what happened in Egypt and Tunisia, it's too late to do any reform," Assad told the Wall Street Journal.

Big difference here is that Mr Assad is preparing mass graves for those unwize enough to demonstrate in Damascus.
If necessary, US enemies like Iran and Syria will use massive force, massacre the protesters, jail the opposition and execute them, etc. They will get a pass from the rest of the world because they are anti-US. Only nominal US allies like Egypt will be held to the strictest standard, i.e. kill one protester and you are illegitimate and must be overthrown.
This is now the official Obama standard too, apparently.

The Shia are quite different from the Sunni Egyptians. Their heads are buried in eighth Century sand.

Its pretty likely that Syria is just putting on a show. There would be no protest if the government in Damascus and Tehran didn’t want it.
Think China 1989. That’s what is going to happen here. Syria will NOT fall like Egypt.
And lucky for Mr. Assad we’ll hear very little about it.
I agree. The Syrian Government will set up machine guns and mow the protesters down ,like mowing down a human field of wheat.
Damascus is not Cairo by a long shot, no pun intended.
