Obama to speak of 'Sputnik moment' in State of the Union (Link to excerpts of speech)

The U.S. is facing a "Sputnik moment" in which it must embrace investments in research and education, President Obama will say at his State of the Union address Tuesday night.

Obama, in excerpts of his speech released Tuesday evening, hearkened back to the Sputnik era, when the Russian satellite's 1957 launch set off the "space race" and a decade of intense technological development.

"Half a century ago, when the Soviets beat us into space with the launch of a satellite called Sputnik, we had no idea how we’d beat them to the moon. The science wasn’t there yet. NASA didn’t even exist," Obama will say. "But after investing in better research and education, we didn’t just surpass the Soviets; we unleashed a wave of innovation that created new industries and millions of new jobs."

"This is our generation’s Sputnik moment," he'll add.

He will attempt to redefine wasteful spending as some new utopian panacea. Pitiful to watch desperate socialists who are out of OPM.

Oh please. It's a Sputnik moment for his road map to bring down the US and turn it into a Marxist workers’ paradise. Other than than, we elected a lot of people on the platform of “stop Obama” and save America.

The Loon couldn’t even figure out how Sputnik stayed aloft.

He is a fool, stupid, cheezy, sleazy, immoral, stupid (oops, a repeat).

He is pond scum, toe cheese, shower drain detrietus, and dung beetle stuff.

Oh, and I don’t like him very much either.

Here is the text of the speech draft obtained by National Journal:

Tonight I want to begin by congratulating the men and women of the 112th Congress, as well as your new Speaker, John Boehner. And as we mark this occasion, we are also mindful of the empty chair in this Chamber, and pray for the health of our colleague – and our friend – Gabby Giffords.

It’s no secret that those of us here tonight have had our differences over the last two years. The debates have been contentious; we have fought fiercely for our beliefs. And that’s a good thing. That’s what a robust democracy demands. That’s what helps set us apart as a nation.

But there’s a reason the tragedy in Tucson gave us pause. Amid all the noise and passions and rancor of our public debate, Tucson reminded us that no matter who we are or where we come from, each of us is a part of something greater – something more consequential than party or political preference.

A space cadet like him would know all about Sputnik.

Ok. When Sputnik went up, it was the cold war adversary showing us the could do something we couldn’t.

We can do anything our adversaries today can do and then some, we just choose to regulate and tax ourselves away from any real innovation. Obama’s investments and innovations are to kill old people prematurely and punish all non democrat contributors and non union people.

PS- the government organization that led us to win the space race, has been tasked with Muslim outreach now, thanks to the idiot that is going to say this TelePrompTer’s desired words tonite.

This from a president who essentially has shut down NASA and any further space exploration by the US.

Yeah, irony much. This guy is so clueless. He thinks govt. creates jobs and wealth, he thinks just telling people that we must return to “inventing stuff” is all that needs to be done, not seeing any connection between the regulations and the union shops that call themselves public schools and the lack of inventiveness. He can’t understand why we are not discovering new drugs (hello, tort reform), so he thinks a brand new govt. agency is the answer. Sigh. It would be funny if it weren’t my country going down the drain with this guy.

“Now, I strongly believe that we should take on, once and for all, the issue of illegal immigration. I am prepared to work with Republicans and Democrats to protect our borders, enforce our laws and address the millions of undocumented workers who are now living in the shadows. I know that debate will be difficult and take time. But tonight, let’s agree to make that effort. And let’s stop expelling talented, responsible young people who can staff our research labs, start new businesses, and further enrich this nation.”

Well, the Chinese can blow satellites to smithereens. I guess zero is going to suggest that the U.S. start blowing satellites to smithereens all willy nilly.

He’s got a lot of nerve doing that after essentially canceling what was left of our manned space program. Men who are braver and more honorable than Obama ever will be set this nation on a course for the stars that Obama would have us turn away from. He should be ashamed.
