The father of a young man who was killed in a fight involving the son of former Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez said Wednesday he is upset about a letter former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger sent him after reducing the younger Núñez's prison sentence.
On Jan. 2, his last day in office, Schwarzenegger cut the prison sentence of Esteban Núñez from 16 years to seven. He didn't contact the Santos family to seek their opinions before he issued his order.
On Saturday, Fred Santos, the victim's father, said a letter from Schwarzenegger arrived at his home "out of the blue."
The letter, dated Jan. 5, acknowledged that commuting the sentence caused Santos and his wife "more pain."
"I recognize that the last minute nature of my final acts as governor provided you no notice, no time to prepare for or absorb the impact of this decision," he wrote. "For that, I apologize."

An apology like that hurts worse than no apology at all. What kind of apology is it to say you’re sorry after its already done?
Arnold couldn’t even vacate the office of governor with any class.
I can hardly think of a bigger disappointment than Schwarzenegger was.
He made Gray Davis look sober. And he left the state Republican Party at its lowest standing after seven years in office. That’s a charitable assessment of his tenure. He fixed nothing that was wrong with the state.
This guy destroyed any relief from his terrible stint as Gov he might have gotten as the years pass. Everytime Arnie pops his head up, he will have this disgrace hanging over his head.
Couldn’t happen to a better guy.
Actors and celebrities should never be politicians. Ronald Reagan is the exception to the rule.

From what I can tell, Arnold did incalculable damage to California by supporting the rats' environazism.
He pushed the Agenda 21 more successfully than a Democrat would have done. And nothing was done about the state spending more money than it took in. His ballot measures were rejected by the voters because they didn’t fix the problem.
Don’t blame me, I voted for McClintock.

A big disappointment without a doubt. Should we be surprised? He really should have demonstrated some backbone, or some measure of strong leadership, given his imposing persona.
He was certainly a big disappointment. I remember I loved his speech at one of those convention. He was one of the better speakers there. Which serve to remind everyone here, not to be fooled by a well written speech. Judge politicians by their actions, not words
Apparently, the Miami Herald is incapable of producing a web-page that can be viewed by Microsoft Internet Explorer, so I can’t see the rest of Ahnold’s dissembling.
But the facts remain. He commuted the sentence of the child of a political ally, while others in a similar circumstance are left to their just sentences. There is no apologizing your way out of that. There is no spin that makes it less reprehensible.
Better to just say that he did a favor for a friend or as a political pay-off and that the justice of the matter just did not enter into it. At least that would be honest.
This pardon was paying his dues to Rats in order to get an administration job or a Ambassador job. He needed to take care of a lot of Rats before he went out of office.
I would bet that this little Rat Thug will be back in trouble before he even completes parole.
After getting away with murder once, it would be hard to convince him that he has anything to fear from the law.
