Tucson Tea Party Leader: I Want Victim Who Threatened Me To Get Help
TPM ^ | 1/16/11 | Rachel Sladja

One of the 19 victims of last week's shooting in Tucson was arrested yesterday after standing up during a town hall-style meeting and shouting, "You're dead!" to the leader of the Tucson tea party. The victim, J. Eric Fuller, has been charged with disorderly conduct and making a threat. and was involuntarily committed to undergo a mental health evaluation, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

The tea party leader, Trent Humphries, told TPM he hopes that if Fuller needs help, he gets it -- especially if it's the kind of help the suspected shooter never got.

"If pressing charges is the only way to make sure he gets the help he needs, we'll probably do that," Humphries said in a phone interview Sunday. "I'm not saying this guy's Jared Loughner, but I can't tell you for sure he's not a danger to himself, me or the community."

I know that TPM is a pretty lefty source, but props to them for this pretty straight reporting...

Props? Maybe.

“Fuller, 63, makes a living collecting signatures for political petitions.”

No mention that he’s a democrat activist. I find that rather slippery of them.

Poor man is obviously demented.

I suspect this will inflame more Leftists than we could inflame by ourselves. How dare anyone suggest this man is unbalanced like the Tuscon shooter?? I will watch and see if the Leftists think this man needs help or maybe he is just acting out like anyone would in the face of the Tea Party.

Makes a living collecting signatures for political petitions, eh? Working for ACORN, perhaps?

Why did Fuller leave the scene of a shooting? If he was injured there were plenty of Paramedics around. Why did he drive himself to the hospital? What did he have, a John Kerry splinter shoving someone else into the line of fire?

Interesting. They never did this for Loughner and right out of the chute they commit this idiot. They're scared.

DO NOT DROP CHARGES!!!

I think we should be magnanimous about this. We won’t try to make Obama take responsibility for the threats made by his supporter.

Regardless of how you feel about the incident or the man in question, pursuing charges would be the epitome of stupidity. Any second year law student struggling at the bottom of his/her class could easily make a strong case of PTSD and get the guy off.

Instead the sheriff needs`to secure a detention on psychiatric grounds.

>>>I think we should be magnanimous about this.

Why????

‘Rats wouldn’t. They would not rest until there was a verdict in a trial, and then they’d protest if they didn’t like the verdict.

We should demand no less than a trial to a verdict, whatever it may be.

This guy needs to be held accountable for his actions.

Period. Just like Loughner.

He should have been given “help” a long time ago. Instead, the government gave him a monthly check.

My post wasn’t about charges against Fuller. It was about Obama. They are trying to make Sarah Palin responsible for a person that doesn’t even support her while we don’t try to make Obama responsible for a guy who does support him.

Prosecuting that jack-waggon for his behavior is not transferring blame/responsibility to ANYONE. It’s holding him accountable for his actions. And nothing else.

No argument here. The problem with prosecuting him is that’s a waste of resources because it can’t be won. His attorney would deliver a 20 minute soliloquy on Post Traumatic Stress, 20 minutes of details of the day of the shooting, a 20 minute summation of what a good guy he is, how he wasn’t armed, and didn’t do anything but shoot his mouth off, then he would rest his case in a hours time, and no prosecutor in the world would be able to penetrate that defense.
