Democrats: our bullseye targets on House districts are not like Palin’s crosshair targets (4/2010)
Palm Beach Post ^ | 4/8/2010 | George Bennett

Sarah Palin’s use of crosshairs to target Democratic House incumbents is dangerous symbolism, Democrats say. But a party spokesman says it’s “a stretch” to compare Palin’s imagery to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s use of red and white bullseyes last year to target Republican incumbents.

Broward County Democratic Chairman Mitch Ceasar played the Palin card this week when he condemned GOP congressional hopeful Allen West for urging tea partyers to make Democratic U.S. Rep. Ron Klein “scared to come out of his house.”

Palin endorsed West last week. So Ceasar noted that the former Alaska governor and VP nominee also recently “unveiled a national political map using rifle crosshairs to mark the members of Congress across the country who supported healthcare reform.”

Klein isn’t on Palin’s map, but, Ceasar said, “West and his mentor Sarah Palin are shamefully stoking violent language and symbolism that threatens the safety of our leaders and public officials.”

Some in the conservative blogosphere contend there’s not much difference between Palin’s map and the Democrats’ placement of bullseyes on the districts of “targeted Republicans” who voted against the $787 billion stimulus bill.

Said National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Andy Sere: “We’re waiting with bated breath for an acknowledgment that all their recent outrage has been manufactured for political gain. In the meantime, we’re asking Merriam-Webster to add ‘D-C-C-C’ as an alternate spelling for ‘hypocrisy.’ ”

Rep. Eric Cantor was one of "targets" with a bullseye on him. He was later threatened numerous times during the weeks before Obamacare passed, and a bullet was "randomly fired" at his campaign office window...

More proof that the liberal morons are clueless when it comes to firearms and how they work. The crosshairs are on the shooter's scope. The bullseye goes on the TARGET! ie: The object you want to hit.

Just say NO to drugs.

Please tell me this is not serious. Where are the adults? Neither use of symbols can be blamed as cause for the actions of deranged individuals. The gun didn’t do it, T.V. nor Radio talk shows did it. Second-hand smoke, nor transfat, nor salt, did it.
It must have been Bush! (sarc)

And those slandering Palin and the tea party, had the assassin been successful in killing Cantor, would have said they were sorry it happened but that he should have known he was inciting people to violence and would have blamed him for it rather than the assassin - called for us to "understand" the assassin.

And as has been pointed out numerous times before...Palin's "crosshairs" are not "crosshairs" but a map marker or surveyor's symbol with no reference to weaponry at all.

Yep. It’s all just demagoguery by the Libs to attempt to silence any opposition.

The fact is that both the bullseye and the cross-hairs imagery is damned stupid. A few of us here called it such back when it first popped up. We knew that it would someday be used against Palin...not a hard prediction to make. And for that reason we considered it stupid. You never give your enemy a hammer to smack you with.

Between that, and their article by BlueBoy saying “She’s dead to me!”, I would say that the Daily Kooks were responsible for the incendiary “vitriol” leading to the shooting.

Agreed.

I also think we empower the beltway types too much by reacting. To think Sarah or Glen Beck had anything at all to do with this is absolute lunacy.

“You never give your enemy a hammer to smack you with.”

True, but even if they didn’t have any supposed “evidence”, they would just make it up anyways (the “N-word” supposedly being chanted before the Obamacare vote; people “spitting” on black congressmen; fabricated quotes from Rush about “praising” slavery, etc, etc). That’s what they do.

This is too funny! Democrats are silly people.

By the way, there seems to be a major effort on the part of left-leaning folk to blame these shootings on Palin, Angle, Bachmann, etc., because they used “violent” rhetoric.
