Taxpayers Finance Pelosi’s Lavish Hawaiian Farewell
Judicial Watch ^ | January 5, 2011

Posted on 01/05/2011 9:03:24 AM PST by jazusamo

Reminiscent of the scandal in which she used military aircraft as her personal taxi, Nancy Pelosi stuck it to U.S. taxpayers on her way out as House Speaker with a lavish Hawaiian vacation featuring secret service and local police motorcades financed by Americans.

The famously corrupt California congresswoman spent her last days as Speaker at an exotic resort in Kona’s historic settlement of Ka’upulehu, according to a Hawaiian newspaper that’s working to get figures on local police and secret service costs. Not surprisingly, the feds refuse to provide details on Pelosi’s security detail and the Hawaii Police Department claims it can’t release the number of officers it dedicated to Pelosi’s motorcade, whether they were pulled from other duties or paid overtime.

What’s certain, however, is that it cost big bucks and Americans are getting stuck with the hefty bill. Pelosi stayed in an elaborate suite of an exclusive “natural tropical paradise” that rents for $10,000 a night. She took a private plane to Hawaii and was escorted throughout her trip by a motorcade of secret service and local police officers. Two Hawaii County Police vehicles camped outside the resort to guard Pelosi during her week-long stay, according to sources quoted in the story.

During a similar jaunt to the big island’s chick Kona Coast last year, Hawaii County taxpayers dished out more than $21,000 for Pelosi’s local security alone. It’s not clear whether she arrived by private plane for that particular getaway, but it’s reasonable to assume she booked an Air Force jet since Pelosi used the military as her personal airline during her tenure as Speaker.

In fact, the veteran lawmaker was crowned Air Pelosi after a lengthy Judicial Watch investigation uncovered evidence of her shocking abuse of military luxury travel. Internal Pentagon records obtained through public records requests document Pelosi’s numerous requests for military escorts and aircraft to ferry her and her family around. Other documents demonstrate that Pelosi used Air Force aircraft as her own personal party planes, racking up more than $100,000 for in-flight expenses such as food and alcohol.

Pelosi has also been embroiled in several other scandals recently, including campaign finance violations, quadrupling the rent of her district office amid a dire financial crisis in her state and ignoring serious incidents of corruption within her own party after vowing to “drain the swamp” in Congress.

The new speaker better wash down the seat before he sits on it. All those spending bills must have gotten Pelosi excited.

Thanks for completely ruining my morning.

Frank R - You should do a quick google before making comments about Newt's farewell party. He lost all of 5 Republican seats in the 1998 elections and not only resigned as Speaker but, after winning reelection easily in his District, resigned his congressional seat as well.

Contrast with Nancy. Loses 63 seats and runs for minority leader. One person had honor, one is power hungry and, based on her statements yesterday, is likely mentally ill. Deficit reduction is their Mantra???? Are you kidding me?

Newt had his issues, but he balanced the budget and did the right thing for this Country, unlike the outgoing criminals. Below is Wikipedia’s blurb on Newt's resignation (I know - not the best source, but I only had 5 minutes)

Credit Wikopedia:

“Resignation
Gingrich's official portrait as SpeakerBy 1998, Gingrich had become a highly visible and polarizing figure in the public’s eye, making him a target for Democratic congressional candidates across the nation. His approval rating was 45% in April 1998.[42]

Republicans lost five seats in the House in the 1998 midterm elections — the worst performance in 64 years for a party that didn't hold the presidency. Polls showed that Gingrich and the Republican Party's attempt to remove President Clinton from office was widely unpopular among Americans.[43]

Gingrich suffered much of the blame for the election loss. Facing another rebellion in the Republican caucus, he announced on November 6, 1998 that he would not only stand down as Speaker, but would leave the House as well. He had been handily reelected to an 11th term in that election, but declined to take his seat. Commenting on his departure, Gingrich said, “I'm willing to lead but I'm not willing to preside over people who are cannibals. My only fear would be that if I tried to stay, it would just overshadow whoever my successor is.”[44]

Yet another limo-liberal, no respect for taxpayer dollars. Absolutely blind to the hypocracy of claiming to fight for the middle class but arogantly/foolishly waste away dollars confiscated from their paychecks.

Choosing to vacation out of her home State... certainly her choice, but that too sends a heck of a message.

Yep, imagine that. No surprise but it is surprising they printed it in the first place.

Print media in Hawaii is some of the most liberal in the country and that’s saying something.

I KNOW what happened to Gingrich, I was alive then.

I was trying to make a point, facaetious as it may have been.

Pelosi - by and large - made the dems lose this election; she is the shortest term speaker ever and gave us such gems as obamacare.

So if she gets a party, then by the left's rules of f***ed up fairness, he should have got one as well.

Anything else?

I hold the Sec of the Defense, Sec of Air Force, Chairmen of the Joint Chiefs and the Gen of the Air Force responsible. All it would take is for one of them to say “No.”

The problem in our military today is EVERY ONE of the top brass are political hacks.
