DOVER, Del. – The body of a military expert who served in three Republican administrations was found dumped in a landfill over the holiday weekend, and investigators said Monday they do not know who might have killed him.

John Wheeler III, 66, was last seen Dec. 28 on an Amtrak train from Washington to Wilmington. His body was found three days later, on New Year's Eve, as a garbage truck emptied its contents at the Cherry Island landfill. His death has been ruled a homicide.

"He was just not the sort of person who would wind up in a landfill," said Bayard Marin...

Not to be picky, but I've heard better testimonials.

“His death has been ruled a homicide.”

Nah, let’s not jump to conclusions here. Could he simply have gotten off at the wrong stop?

Accidental or suicidal problem. Was Bushes fault? Call up the Regulatory Czar for fair and balanced report? Reliable information is so rare.

Best reporting in my mind: World Magazine. http://www.worldmag.com/

I hope someone says something nice like that about me if I ever wind up in a landfill.

Funny you should mention his wife.

Let me say that I’m in Delaware here and this case has caught my eyeball.

Last time this guy was seen was last Tuesday, I guess that would be 12/28.....riding the Amtrack from DC to Delaware.

Something happened to him that night more than likely.

First person you suspect is the spouse. Just a matter of course.

Local yokel talk show guy thinks it was a random drive-by. Wife sells Cambodian silk, whatever that means.

Intriguing case.

This is true. Also Mike Castle’s train.

But this is about the ONLY train in Delaware, probably one of the few Amtrack routes making a profit.

The DC to Northern Delaware Amtrack is a very popular route.

Yes after 3 days one would call the police. I read somewhere on here that wife was out of town and did not know he was missing. Just FYI, I talk to my husband at least once in 3 days if Im out of town. esp. at Christmas, just sayin.

You’re right...she was allegedly out of town. It’s not all that clear to me whether she had contact with him....I too heard a three day window.

And you’re right again, she calls, no answer, calls again, no answer....hey....who the hell doesn’t have an answering machine nowadays? You leave a message, don’t call back, hey, I’m either coming home or calling someone to check on him.

But ah, I get ahead of myself.

His death has been declared a homicide. That’s been reported definitively. So someone tried to kill him.

Amtrack stations, they’re not normally pits of crime and that’s where his car would have been parked, you’d think.

Unless someone picked up him.

Interesting case. I’m paying attention.
