Here is a place to discuss all the activities and events Free Republic will promote or join to kick off as of today, the Ronald Reagan Centennial Year - 1911-2011, in memory of our 40th President Of The United States Of America.
Freepers, post your observations, memories, insights and suggestions of how to commemorate this special year!
This is an open thread!
I have read there will be a parade float in honor of Ronald Reagan the 100th anniversary of his birthday in the Rose Bowl Parade.
I do love the Gipper and honor his memory. Cried buckets of tears when he died, and joined a group of California FReepers who visited his grave soon after the funeral. Definitely the greatest president of the 2nd half of the 20th Century. Having said that, though, I do wish conservatives would be honest about his complete record. Like any president, he did have some failures. The best biographies are the ones that are honest about a person’s strengths and weaknesses.
He was speaking of the USSR, but he could also be speaking of today's so-called "liberal."

I have said this once before, on this forum, my first vote for a President of The United States was for Ronald Reagan. I was fortunate to have voted for President Reagan twice. If I could have voted for him three times, I would have done so. President Reagan gave to America, he didn’t take from America as so many of our politicians have done and continue to do. Ronald Reagan loved this nation. He loved the people of America. Ronald Reagan tried, yet he too failed sometimes. Ronald Reagan did not fail America in any continuing sense of failure, he instead lifted America, called America that Shining City on the Hill, and Ronald Reagan reminded all Americans and the world of freedom, life, justice, and of exceptionalism embodied in the individual. Ronald Reagan was the greatest President of the century, and should we fail as Americans to find another like him, because America is always looking for the next Ronald Reagan, then America will have lost some of what is America and what America stands for. I continue to admire this man, who arrived when our nation needed someone like him. It had to be God’s will. I can offer no other logical explanation. Thank You Lord, for Ronald Reagan!
I started reading “The Reagan Diaries” over Christmas. I don’t know when I will get back to it. In just the few pages I read, his love for the country, clear-eyed skepticism of the Soviets and humbleness shone through.
Hope to get back to reading the book soon.

Having met Reagan in 1984, I have a special place in my heart for his memory. Knowing this, my wife gave me a 5 CD set for my birthday last year called “Reagan, In His Own Voice”, I highly recommend it.
There was only one perfect man... they crucified HIM and HE rose from the dead. Happy New Year FRiend!

Two of my all time favorites... a 1911 and Reagan... wish Reagan had the same shelf life.

The coincidence of the date begs the totally unrelated question of what Colt might have planned for the centenial of the 1911.
Done right, this centennial could save the Republic.
Rushmore!
And visit and SHOP from the Reagan Library's Gift Shop, if you can in these times.Dear Friends,
The Ronald Reagan Centennial is quickly approaching! These past few months have been exciting as a number of partnerships and programs have taken shape. Meanwhile, through the generosity of Centennial presenting sponsor, GE, throughout 2010 the "Traveling Ronald Reagan Presidential Museum Exhibit" brought artifacts and stories from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library to cities across America including Long Beach, Chicago, Atlanta, New York City, Boston and Houston.
President Reagan often said, "America's best days lie ahead." As representatives of America's next generation of great leaders, the Ronald Reagan Centennial National Youth Leadership Committee embodies that same optimism, representing the future with anticipation and promise. If you haven't done so yet, visit our website to read the profiles from the National Youth Leadership Committee. Some members participated in a podcast series with Reagan Centennial partner, and non-profit promoter of free markets, Sam Adams Alliance. These podcasts can be found here, or on iTunes. Additionally, in January of 2011 many of the student leaders on the Committee will be featured in their college or university newspaper.
Visit the Centennial website www.reagancentennial.com for the most recent Calendar of Events and other Centennial updates. In particular, here are upcoming dates to keep in mind:

On January 1st be sure to vote for the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation float #52 and ensure Ronald Reagan's place in Rose Parade history!
I bought our three Grandchildren Christmas presents from there this year. And I found that for the Christmas season they had a 300% INCREASE in online shoppers as I called when my order was taking a little longer than it should to receive. The fellow in the Shipping Dept said they were overwhelmed with all the orders and 'slightly' caught off guard.
(The RATS can say what they want but 'Reagan Conservatism' is back, and it's back -- HUGH!
I grew up in Ronald Reagan’s hometown, Dixon,Il., long after he had left, but did have the honor to meet him when I was a child. Reagan had a lifelong love affair with America, and always saw his duty as President to protect and defend this country. In the modern world we live in, Reagan restored American exceptionalism. The Tea Party folks showed America what that was all about this past year.
Vote Online for Your Favorite 2011 Rose Parade Float!Note: That server is running at squirrel speed. So be patient
I’m just pissed that Reagan’s Centennial comes during the reign of the anointed one.
Ronald Reagan deserves better than unctuous, oleaginous, gilded, meretricious, obsequious, specious, pharisaic, fulsome, and hypocritical praises from the Chief Teleprompter.
But I know that this century’s greatest president will just shuck it off and say “There you go again.”
Bump!
