D.C. families move from hopelessness into homes (A Liberal Christmas Story)
“
Some stories are “too good to be true”.
I suspect this is one of them.
You got it. Coming to a neighborhood near you. The article said that the apartments were intended as condos until the market crashed in 2007.
I hate to be negative on Christmas day so I’ll just add a little story to the comments posted so far.
I knew a guy in DC that worked for the gas company...his job included shutting off customer’s gas for non-payment of their bill...well, you can imnagine how well that went over in black neighborhoods...people would cuss him, threaten him, pull guns ect...unintimidated, he would still proceed with the shutoff...one day his boss told him to go back and re- check a building...even though the gas had been shut off, it appeared gas was still being used...so my guy went out and checked, and sure enough someone had by-passed the shut off valve...they used a bicycle inner tube for pipe and plumbed around the shut off....that’s life in Urban America for you!
I think they have new rules about shutting down gas/electric now days...the utility company can’t do it the way they used to...safety concerns prompted a lot of it...fires break out when people get shut off and use candles and space heaters.
Anyone who has children knows that they don’t appreciate anything that was just handed to them, and only respect what they’ve earned through their own effort. The left finds political advantage in ignoring this simple truth.
Forclosures will now be given out as a form of redistribution and as all of us know “housing is a humanitarian right” puke! who didn’t see this coming?
If a person enters into a life of crime, violence and self indulgence, then at some point become a productive, law abiding member of society, he is noble. If, on the other hand, a person grows up in a loving home, works hard, and becomes a productive member of society, he is evil. This is the “logic” of the left.
“Let me ask, who deserves the charity?”
Not the bricklayer friend. He’s probably never been addicted to drugs or spent time behind bars so really he has no “story” that would bring tears to eyes of any solid Oprah fan.
But there’s still hope for him, he could be shot and crippled while robbing a convenience store and thus become a “victim of gun violence”.
Some years ago they did just this in DC. There was a ‘family’ with a lot of children and either homeless or all crammed into a small apartment. The city was browbeaten by the press into finding them a house. I don’t know if it was even a year later that there were broken windows, the interior was messed up, etc. Some people will ruin whatever they have because that’s the way they are.
Back in the late 90’s, before I left Philly, I heard of a Section 8 family that had moved into a neighborhood and the neighbors were demonstrating against it. Knowing Philly, I assumed it was a black family moving into a lower class white neighborhood. Turns out, it was a white family in a white neighborhood.
The neighbors were incensed that they were working 2 jobs to buy a house and keep it up and this woman with a bunch of kids had basically been given a house. I don’t know the outcome for that incident. I suspect she stayed in the house, but I’d be curious as to whether they were able to keep it up to the neighborhood standards.
<I think they have new rules about shutting down gas/electric now days...the utility company cant do it the way they used to...safety concerns prompted a lot of it...fires break out when people get shut off and use candles and space heaters.
Yeah. They have similar rules in Philly. One woman lost 4 kids in a fire and then blamed it on the electric company that she was ‘forced’ to use candles because she hadn’t paid the bill.
The other thing people would do is not pay over the winter, when the utility can’t cut you off. Then they make a payment plan to get the utilities turned back on in the spring, and as soon as it gets cold again, they stop paying. If some of these ‘geniuses’ had applied themselves to real work, we might have a cure for cancer by now.
“Homes” these parasites did absoltely nothing to earn or deserve?
LOL, yeah - - these “homes” will be kept clean and well-maintained, I’m sure.
I have a funny feeling that if the scumbag government tried to relocate these parasites to my nice neighborhood, there would be a whole lot of unexplained fires.
My church runs several apartment complexes like this in Charlotte. We take in down-and-out families, provide them a home, and give them counseling on how to get their lives on track. The families are accountable for their progress and eventually they move out and rent / buy their own places.
We have had quite good success, and the property is well-maintained.
It looks like while these people messed up their own lives in the past, they’re trying to become productive citizens now. I hope they succeed.
Don’t you hate yourself for laughing at that youtube clip? I sure do, but I laughed my *** off anyway.
