Senate Democrats are going to be working over the Christmas break to deliver a lump of coal to the American people in the form of a radical changing of the Senate's rules. This is a naked power grab by liberals in the Senate pure and simple.
The National Journal reports that Senate Democrats are laying the groundwork to chip away at the filibuster on January 5, 2011. They are going to push the idea that a simple majority of the Senate can abolish the filibuster rules, or radically change the rules, in a new Congress.

If they get this done, and if the Republicans take the Senate in ‘12, look for the Dems to change the filibuster rule back right before the Republicans take over. Just watch.

I call BS. With a GOP controlled House, they would be cutting their own throats if a simple majority could end filibuster and bring bills to a vote. But then, this is probably about putting as many liberal, constitution hating judges in place before Obastard is thrown out on his ear.

No law they pass will get through the House next year.
And their hold on the Senate (so far) going in to the 2012 election is shakey.
These rule changes could come back to haunt them.

Senate Democrats are going to be working over the Christmas break to deliver a lump of coal to the American people in the form of a radical changing of the Senate’s rules.
All Democratic senators returning next year have signed a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., urging him to consider action to change long-sacrosanct filibuster rules. The letter, delivered this week, expresses general frustration with what Democrats consider unprecedented obstruction and asks Reid to take steps to end those abuses. While it does not urge a specific solution, Democrats said it demonstrates increased backing in the majority for a proposal, championed by Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M., and others, to weaken the minoritys ability to tie the Senate calendar into parliamentary knots.
They are angry that they could not railroad through the Senate legislation imposing Card Check, a Public Option for ObamaCare and Climate Change. Now it is pay back time.
These liberals intend on making it harder for Republicans to participate in the legislative process. They are also setting the table to make it easier to sieze control of the Supreme Court if any of the conservative leaning members decide to retire.
Republicans would be smart to fire back with a proposed rule to abolish the Senate Majority Leader’s power to block amendments to bills, create at 2/3rds supermajority before 2nd Amendment rights can be infringed and a 2/3rds supermajority before increasing the debt limit. If Democrats want to change the rules with a simple majority, conservatives have the power to fire back with a series of new Senate rules to make it harder for liberals to expand government. It is clear that many liberals have not gamed out the consequences of this radical idea.

No, if they insist on eliminating the filibuster, it will make undoing bad Rat laws that much easier when we have a GOP majority. (Assuming we can get rid of about 5 or 6 RINOs)

This seems like it will totally backfire. We run the house now. They can’t just originate spending bills and with out the House, they won’t have the dough to support their legislation.
The more likely scenario is McConnell peeling off a couple Rats to pass House bills and making Obummer look like the obstructor as the vetoes start.

This is the best thing that could ever happen to us. We own the house. Anything that passes the house in it’s current Republican form could get enough Republicans to pass colture in the Senate as well. Republicans take the Senate in 2012 and they don’t reinforce the old rules, and then it’s goodbye OCare!

We don’t want anybody doing this because we don’t know who will be in the majority in four or eight or twelve years. Leave the checks and balances in place. They work and they are one of the few remaining reasons we remain a republic.

Let ‘em. Chances are, Republicans take the Senate and the White House in 2012 and then just watch these people whine and pout when we do the same and cite the precedent that the Dems did it first.
I rather doubt the Dems want to give that up just for 24 months of partial government control. It might get some of their judges passed and other commies confirmed but there will be tremendous hell to pay in 2013 and they won’t have Senate “rules” to fall back on once they abandon them themselves.
Democrats are evil but they’re not stupid. I doubt they do this.

Big deal. Won't help them at all. The House will stop anything they start.
*And* it will destroy the Senate in terms of being more deliberate than the House, seriously weakening it in the overall scheme.

The best way to actually see a Marxist for what they are is very simple test.
The Ends Justify the Means.
Well, problem is that once this becomes the rules of the street game then no process will matter.
This will become a naked race for totalitarian power that may initiate violent conflict.
Might will make right, no process will have any meaning whatsoever, and America will have devolved into a 3rd world dictatorship.
Forget any thought of a Constitutional form of Government.

Actually, this may be beneficial for Republicans. There are 20 or so Democratic Senators due for a re-election in 2012. Republicans need only 5 of those to win votes, if filibuster rules are not in effect. Also, a potential Republican majority in 2012 will not have to worry about filibusters if Democrats are helpful enough to eliminate them now.
