It’s only their homes, businesses, etc. Eh.
Zion National Park Closed Until Further Notice
(Springdale, UT) - Zion National Park is currently closed as a precaution due to rising river levels and potential flood damage to roads and infrastructure. The Zion Lodge and Watchman Campground in Zion Canyon are being evacuated to prevent the possibility of park visitors being trapped in the park by rising water levels. The park will be closed until the river level begins to drop and damage can be assessed.
The river level early Tuesday morning was 5,000 cubic feet per second (cfs). The level is predicted to reach 8,000 cfs later in the day. The normal cfs at this time of the year is 40 to 50 cfs. The highest level ever recorded was 9,150 cfs in 1966.
Uh oh. The river is pretty close to my hotel.
It’ll all wind up in Lake Meade, so maybe some of that 60 foot tall ‘bathtub ring’ will go away....
It happens. Anyone who has lived in any desert for a year will understand flash floods during the rains.
Some days, it takes a while for the brain to send the message that “something isn’t right,” but in that time, your body is, for the most part, waiting for the correct information. All we have to do is “stop, look and listen.”
And hold hands while crossing the streets!
By the time you get there, the evidences of any flooding will be long gone. Denizens are adept at recovering. No worries!
Those of us who live within view of the Bathtub Ring are hoping...
We need to stop selling water to CA.
Thanks. It's hard to get a perspective on that from Yahoo Maps.
“This statement must be from the Department of Redundancy Department, “
Don’t worry! Jame Retief will take care of it!
We were driving from Salt Lake City back to Mount Carmel last night. When we got to Fillmore it had really started snowing so we checked in to a Comfort Inn. We found out when we checked int the internet that a landslide had closed highway 89 and that a washout had taken out the road in east Zion.
If we had kept going our only possibility would have been a very long around about through Fredonia Arizona.
Our Mormon sister in law called to say she was praying for us all night. Must have worked as we are here safe and sound.
Hope so. One of my planned trips to Europe (last month) was canceled because the venue changed due to the Gaylord Opryland flooding in Nashville, and the date change put that event on top of my planned trip.
But as you say the locales are high above the river... okay. (Though in 1981 I watched a river in the Santa Cruz mountains rise 50 or more feet -- a few more and it would have reached our house.)
Uh oh. The river is pretty close to my hotel.
What town are you in now ?
On the contrary, love both songs.
Not sure how many picked up on your post, however.
We were in that area a couple months ago while on vacation. I love visiting Utah... so many scenic places.
I sure hope those folks get the heck out of there... quickly.
Do you know if that’s anywhere near Kanab? My favorite animal shelter is located there.
I’m a long way away right now. But I just booked a hotel close by the river in St. George for a trip next month.
So are you safe at home now?
I see from your message that you made it home...good news.
I was living in SG the last time the Virgin got reckless.
The locals respect her and because of that, they are prepared.
Don’t worry. Your trip is still four weeks away. Only the scars will show!
