(DIABLO) Kirk votes to support repeal of military gay ban

(AP) Republican Mark Kirk broke with his majority of his party Saturday to support repeal of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy on gays in the military, casting one of the first high-profile votes he’s faced as Illinois’ junior senator.

The Senate voted 65-31 to let gays serve openly in the military. President Barack Obama was expected to sign the legislation next week, although the change wouldn’t take immediate effect. The House had passed an identical version of the bill, 250-175, on Wednesday.

Kirk was one of six Republicans to break ranks. The move was a reversal for him after he’d earlier helped block repeal legislation. A spokesman said as recently as two days ago that Kirk was still undecided on the issue.

The money quote (from your link) is this one:

Both Democrats and Republicans have something like this — where closeted gay men of public prominence can meet guys for sex and fun without blowing their covers. Republican Congressman Aaron Schock, for example, used the Chicago Young Republicans organization extensively through the summer of 2009 to meet hot young guys here in Chicago. We know of several guys who “dated” Schock through the CYRs…and these guys were chosen because they are ambitious, bisexual/questioning, and closeted themselves…so they could be trusted to keep Schock’s secret. We imagine people like Mark Kirk, Lindsey Graham, Larry Craig, Eric Massa, Mark Foley, Charlie Crist, and others had similar arrangements with Cocktail Party Republican establishment organizations that introduced these closeted gay men with young, attractive guys who could be trusted not to talk about doing whatever they were doing with politicians. These are NOT male prostitutes…but rather young men who want to get ahead in the GOP, so they’re willing to give a little…head…fill in the blank if you know what we mean. Not every guy is as attractive as Schock, but if you knew anything about the CYRs you’d see just how many guys in a groupd like that would love to do just about anything to have a Congressman write him letters of recommendation…especially in this economy.

What is going on with her election? I have not heard anything lately. Is Miller still fighting this? After yesterday, let’s hope so. (not that yesterday is the only reason but it put the icing on the cake).

They are opportunists ~ they think gay money will come their way for their campaign funds ~ based on the presumption the Democrats won't get back in the majority for a long time.

And, truth be known, this Kirk character and the Naked Guy probably engage in homosexual behavior themselves.

That might even be the case with Collins and Snowe!

Mostly propaganda ~ and another insight into what homosexuals think about the broader world around them. It's all in their imagination that no one cares, or that there are open homosexual societies that take over sections of aircraft carriers where they can play.

That article is typical of most homosexual literature ~ but that doesn't mean Kirk isn't gay.

For a guy who’s been in and supports “gay openess” baffles me . He (Kirk) was on WLS’s Don Wade & Roma show earlier before this vote Friday 12/17/10 with Wade gushing all over Kirk as “savior”.
Did 3 pieces for a WI state house candidate and took out a 40 year fixture in the state assembly,if you want to see what I did let me know.

What happened with Pollack ?

Is Kirk gay, or is he clueless in connection with knowledge and experience with our military? He might just be an intellectual lightweight, too. He is now a heretic in my opinion.

It would be intersting to this old screwup to see how many of the Lame ducks that got their Congressional Pass pulled voted for this abomination out of spite-to punish the American people for refusing their place at the public trough.
And equally interesting to see how many Americans remember the names of the Members in the House and Senate that voted for this “change” .I would love to see a Patriot Guard show up at EVERY political event where one of these Namby Pamby Reprobate
men and wombless women come holding big signs that say stuff like congress man fecal head voted for Sodomy in the Ranks.

A portent of thing to come. Watch these 8 people for more RINO activity.

America didn’t win the election we just placed a new set of trash in the old chairs.

The corruption in Washington is deep set in both parties.

“Is Kirk gay, or is he clueless in connection with knowledge and experience with our military?”

Kirk is a Commander in the Naval Reserves, and is a Intelligence Officer. He’s not clueless. He may be gay.

His ex-wife said in an interview earlier this year that she was disappointed with the views he was taking during the election, and that he had assured her privately that he would vote for the repeal of DADT when the time came.

Shocking! If a politician favors killing unborn children, they can't be trusted on ANY issue.

It's time to cleanse the GOP of RINOs even if Democrats take the seats.

Exactly. RINOS GIVE THE ENEMY COVER AND MAKE IT EASIER TO BLAME ALL REPUBLICANS. Better to take a principled stand and get the message right. You cannpot win an argument if you have your side COLLABORATING WITH THE OTHER SIDE!!

(first, 'scuse me for buttin' in)

*** how did Kirk vote on Dream? ***

Kirk Voted NO. Helped kill the bill.
That was one of two votes in a row where Kirk voted the 'right' way. (can't recall the other now)

I was so shocked I posted on the IL Board that Kirk was going to give me a heart attack :-)

Those of us living in Illinois may have noticed the front page of today's Chicago Sun-Times (Sunday edition) has the DREAM act passing with "bipartisan" support as the top story, with a beaming picture of their hero, Mark Kirk.

Obviously the liberal media is going to milk this guy's "Republican" status for the next six years to give the Dems cover for their radical agenda.

It's funny how the Kirk cheerleaders keep screeching about how horrible things would be with Alexi in the Senate due to the fact he's slightly to the left of Kirk, but they never want to talk about the fact he would have no sway whatsoever as a tainted crooked. Would Alexi voting for DADT repeal be front page news? That would be like a front page story telling us George Soros is against Bush.
