Royal snub for the Obamas: No wedding invite from Prince William and Kate Middleton
LA Times ^ | December 17, 2010 | Andrew Malcolm

Oh, the humiliation. Once not so long ago one of the world's top celebrities in his own right, Barack Obama and his wife Michelle did not make the cut for invitations to the royal wedding in London next spring.

On April 29 in Westminster Abbey with all the grace and pageantry sure to capture international imaginations, commoner Kate Middleton will marry Prince William, son of Princess Diana. And don't forget the horsedrawn carriage perhaps.

But the current residents of the White House will not be there, according to the Daily Mail.

Does anyone remember if President Reagan and Mrs. Reagan were invited to Charles and Diana’s wedding? I don’t seem to remember that they were.

So Obummer and the Wookie weren’t invited, who cares!

I think Nancy attended. The president was healing from an assassination attempt.

It preempts the president’s attempt to snub them.

Payback for returning Winston Churchill's bust and giving the Queen an incompatibly formatted DVD of Obama's speeches.

Maybe the Royal family will provide Obama with Zone 2 videos of the wedding and return the Medal of Honor that General Pershing presented to the British Unknown Warrior in 1921.

They probably worried about what tasteless, classless, gaudy outfit MO would show up in.

Maybe they could send Barry an Ipod with the ceremony recorded on it.

It was simply an oversight. The invitations were sent to all world LEADERS. It’s easy to see why Zero was overlooked.

As I recall; only Nancy went to the wedding. She represented the President.

This is going to be a security nightmare as it is. My guess is the Brits just don’t want any more complications with security.

Of course, the royal couple may be getting married in a ‘Wookie-Free-Zone’.

Maybe the Royal family will provide Obama with Zone 2 videos of the wedding and return the Medal of Honor that General Pershing presented to the British Unknown Warrior in 1921.

The royal family has a special attachment to Britain's Tomb of the Unknown Warrior. In 1923 Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (Queen Elizabeth's mother) laid a wreath on the tomb on day of her wedding to the Queen's father. She did it in memory of her brother, Fergus Bowes-Lyon, who was killed at the Battle of Loos in 1915. Since that time it is a royal tradition that the bride in any royal wedding, including Princess (at that time) Elizabeth when she married Prince Philip, lays a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior on the day of her wedding. I'm sure Kate Middleton will be continuing the custom.

So, no, I don't think that the royal family will be insulting the honored dead, General Pershing, the American Medal of Honor, or the American people by returning the Medal of Honor, as you suggest, just to stick it in Obama’s eye.

And if they were to do that, it's not like Obama would care anyway. Which I'm sure they know.

I wouldn’t invite Obammy to my wedding either. Kind of like letting a stink bomb loose in the room.

Hopefully Prince William invites Todd & Sarah Palin to the wedding.
