One thing California has that most other states do not have -— GREAT WEATHER. For many people, that is worth tens of thousands of dollars in taxes.

Cuba has a nice climate also

The Fate of California is the Fate of all socialist sh*t holes; the workers are ecstatic over all their benefits - at first; then, when the place goes broke, they find their cardboard belts and the long lines for a bit of salami are intolerable.

Then comes the counter-revolution.

Wait a bit and watch it all play out; Soviet Union redux.

I know CA is a beautiful state, but I don’t know how any conservative can stand to live there.

Ditto for places like Vermont. Nice to see, but best to keep moving.

Yes, so do Greece and Mexico.

I don’t see Alaskan illegal immigrants to Mexico.

Unfortunately, if he sells his house after end of 2013 — quite possible in this market — the feds get 15% percent of the proceeds to fund 0bamaCare.

Come to Michigan!

You get the benefits of having an ocean around you, without having the annoying communists running the state(Stay away from SE Michigan).

And in January, we will be about as Democrat free as you can get.

Californians can keep their fires, mudslides and earthquakes. . .I'll keep more of my own earnings.

That’s right... EVEN IF you are NOT a resident of California, your money WILL be used. What happens in California affects ALL taxpayers

You are probably right that they will be bailed out but hopefully the Republicans in the US Congress will insist on terms that will be so onerous that the State Legilature will effectively be disenfrachised. He who pays the piper.....

I had heard at one time that California was actually looking into ways to put a tax levy on citizens moving out of the state as a way to claim the state’s “share” of wealth that citizen made while residing in California. This is separate from them going after the citizen’s retirement fund. They also wanted a share of the citizen’s accumulated wealth. Any insight as to whether this is still on the table?

Unfortunately, there won't be enough patriotic Americans left to pull it off. That's the difference between CA and the country as a whole. The producers can escape CA. In the USSR, they were locked in like caged animals.

I guess California voters did not get the Tea Party memo that resulted in a “shellacking” of 64 Democrat Congressional seats in the rest of the nation.

Nope. They understood all about the Tea Party and on 2 Nov. said, "No thanks. We like poverty and oppression."

Where ever you move too, check your liberalism at the door.

The people I have known who lived in CA don’t understand the rest of the country. My neighbor moved here from CA, built a house and installed an expensive home alarm system. Hell, some of my doors don’t even lock. The last time we had a store held up, it was on the front page of the paper for a week. People laugh at you if you arm your car alarm.

When my brother lived in LA, he had so many break-ins that they were reduced to stealing the sheets off his bed.

We as a nation have to get right with the fact that California is NOT too big to fail.

Indeed, and back in the 80’s they even tried to go after a portion of military retired pay. They claimed that after a military guy was stationed in CA for, say, three-years, when he retires someplace else that CA has a right to tax that proportion of his retired pay.

Leeches. (and they didn't get the retiree pay).

I don’t mind people getting fed up and leaving liberal hellholes. What I do mind is when they bring their liberal ways with them and ruin what was once a great place to live.

It’s true. There is some kind of new tax on home sales if you are out of state. I don’t recall the details off the top.

We’re opting out of CA as soon as the career details can be settled.

California defines emigration as tax-evasion, and will prosecute you accordingly.

They already go after a percentage of your retirement income in relation to how long you lived and worked in the state.

At one time over 20 years ago they tried to tax retired military members in other states had been stationed there until the DoD and Congress stepped in and stopped them.
