How about they simply get their regular SS at 65 and if they made direct contribution from their own funds to their own retirement, let them get that back.
Most over 20+ years barely put 100k in, so how do they get millions out over the life of their retirement.
Also charge them for their medical insurance.
Government workers currently need a reality check and we need to go back to government workers getting half pay with a 10% pension like the old days.
I'd be also VERY interesting on the numbers regarding the percentage of the people who were working for the government in the 60s compared to 2010. Was there a huge jump in people working for government as a percentage of the population? If there was an increase, we need to get it back to around the same percentage of the 60s IMO.
Thanks for the replies. I had not heard that the Supremes had ended that practice. Best news I have had all day, since we are planning on getting out of Dodge when we retire.
My philosphy about CA is, “Will the last responsible person to leave California please turn off the lights”.

“I left in 1976. Any other CA escapees on this thread?”
Born there and left as a child but once went back as an adult for a very brief time and would never go back. What was once a beautiful State has been ruined with illegal aliens of all kinds and massive corruption.
Assuming he LIVES in Newport Beach where his business has developed, he can sell pretty easily. It’s truly a beautiful piece of the Pacific Coast.
I lived in Newport Beach for a couple of years, left the year before Dr. Cristiano got there. Even then a $2M house wasn’t unusual. There were more Rolls Royces in Newport Beach than in the UK. Money is not an issue. On my last visit, a LOT of Middle Easterners had moved in or at least bought property.
Funny thing ... when I lived there we had Gov. Moonbeam. I returned East, married, had a family; now my eldest lives in SF .. just in time for the Return of Gov. Moonbeam.
If he can sell his home easily, will his leaving really hurt the state of California since his house will most likely be newly occupied by someone in the same financial bracket?
Well, I’d say HE doesn’t care, because they won’t be getting HIS money. Same thing Rush did to NY ... they are still sticking it to upper income earners, but they’re not getting HIS dimes.
One real problem in CA is the ‘critical mass’ of illegals. I think it would be fair to say that, as a group, they consume more in public services, i.e., education, medical, law enforcement, than they contributing to the CA coffers. CA could take x%, but it’s way past that now. During the time I lived in So CA, it was common to see the Border Patrol vehicles filled with those who’d tried to cross the border illegally. I’d like to know the last time one of those was seen.
CA had R gov after R gov, Reagan, Deukmejian, Wilson .. and now Jesus Christ himself couldn’t get elected if he ran as an R. Arnold was a fluke, and far from conservative. I can think of only a handful of native Californians who still live there. They are fleeing; those who remain are becoming an increasing minority.
With the emergency of clearly left leaning populace and the state legislators they elect, the state has become not only not business friendly, but downright business hostile. They’re driving out those who seek to build new businesses and those whose businesses exist but are mobile.
The only thing CA has left going for it is the weather and natural beauty, and its rich natural resources the enviros won’t let them use. It will have to change, but not in my lifetime, sadly.
I just found it kind of funny that the guy seemed to be very self important in all the things he was going to deprive California of.
As are we.
And we’ll take our conservative values & work ethic right along with us.
I’m in the Bay Area and what you say is true. It is a RARE summer evening where you can walk at night without a jacket. I still miss sitting on the backyard patio at my parent’’s house in Pennsylvania at night time, watching the sunset over the hills and woods, marveling at the fireflies at sunset.
Pretty much says it all

Big talk, loud voice. No action.
Tell me about it after you have moved.
BTW, Art Laffer moved to Tennessee..... not Texas or Nevada
I lived in Riverside...before I left. Good weather...but couldn't see the mountains over half of the year, because of the smog.
VDV...
So many people are unaware of the sweep that occured here in MI and the challenges we face to balance the budget. But if Snyder can balance the budget and Lansing can get the hell out of the way and maybe, just maybe start tapping into the Natural Gas and Oil in my gut I know is under this State, we may suprised the heck out the nation with one of the greatest combacks since Ford Motor Company...
The beauty of this region is astounding. This is the view we have to look at every day. Sadly one of our children still lives in the Sacramento area. I have discussed the possibilities that Intel, his company, might just abandon all operations there and take everything to China. He thinks I'm crazy but it seems to me that that is a logical move.
How was the open house?
Thirty - forty hot chocolates and half bottle of brandy. About forty cookies of all types.
The Bishop showed up with dear wife and kids. He didn’t dare have a hot chocolate. Figured I’d fix it properly for him.
(He was right)
