Yup...should be safe for now. He won't be hungry again for days.

So how do you swim, if not on the surface?

Swim 6 feet above the water.

Hey, you don't want to swim in the water. It's full of sharks.

I have talked myself right out of the water more than once after feeling something bump my leg.

Yes, it is irrational, but the idea of sharks near my legs scare the heck outta me.

My neighbor pilots choppers out of Clearwater and goes out over the beaches on the weekends quite a bit. He’s taken pictures from the chopper showing people in the water seemingly oblivious to the hammerheads swimming a few yards away. We can’t see into the water very well when we’re in it up to our chests, but I assure you there are more sharks in the shallows than you’ll ever know. That fact alone should make you comfortable about being around them. Humans are not on shark menus.

Humans are not on shark menus.

900 men of the USS indianoplis would strongly disagree with you after their five days of living hell, that is the 317 that survived would.

Most predators will eat you or me if they are big enough, strong enough and hungry enough including a roving pack of man's best friends.

After all there's nothing special about us to them, we're nothing but so much protein.

I suppose I should’ve said that they don’t go out of their way to hunt us. If we’re afloat in open waters and are kicking in large groups to either move or stay afloat, what’s that look like to them as they circle or go under you? You’re a huge flotilla of penguins or seagulls to them.

Having flown over the Gulf along the Panhandle I know that at about 200 years out the sharks are abundant.

Intellectually I know that I face greater chances of being attacked by pit bulls.

Intellectually I know that they are all around me while I’m swimming.

I’ve even had curious barracuda check me out at Pompano Beach. They don’t scare me, they are harmless.

But when I actually think about it and envision a large grey shadow nearby, I can’t stay intellectual any more and have to GTF outta water!
