A well-meaning man is dead, accidentally, doing something he chose to do. I climb on the roof and do many risky things myself, like load bulls in trailers, etc. At any given moment, my life could end, through some fault of my own or not.
My condolences to the family- they were apparently not there or participating in the project as is common in my circumstance here at the farm.
I assume they would bury me and go on with their lives, knowing that they would see me again some day in better health.

I guess I'm dead...and don't know it yet. : )
It’s a good thing to remind myself from time to time that Harry Truman was the president when I was born. ;~))
That looks totally nuts....
Love that stuff. I used to climb to the tops of electrical towers for fun when I was a kid. I'd sit on top and begin rocking. After a bit, I could get the whole tower swaying.
If I kept it up, I could get the power lines swaying back and forth to the next tower down, and then the next. Made me feel pretty powerful.
It was great fun.

Act in haste, repent at leisure.
But it is good to see your guardian angel has been busy. I hope he/she continues to watch over your self-attached immunity.
That’s really a heart-breaking story. Prayers for his family.
>>I’m in that club also.<<
Broke my arm sliding off the roof. In “flight” my brain yelled “HOW COME I CAN’T BOUNCE LIKE WHEN I WAS A KID??”
Same with us. Used to put them up and down our gables. Now we just string them along the eaves of our ranch house and can reach them handily with a 6 ft. stepladder.
That’s what kids are for! ;)
The thing is-I was always that guy who could climb anything fearlessly. I climbed by a small ladder to change a lightbulb on a 300 foot tower for $10.
We played hide and seek in trees and you had to climb up and get us and we would jump to other tress 20-40 feet up.
Heights never scared me, but I am older, overweight and far less flexible; and I probably have a better sense of mortality also.
I was really surprised of how cautious I got when I climbed the roof that day. I really never expected to be that scared of that low a height but knowing that if I fell it would probably hurt me bad.
There was a time I would have laughed at that man, but he was smart enough to know his limits and he is still alive because of it.
I nearly did a back flip off my roof running Christmas lights. I was running them down the valley stepping backwards as I went along. Fortunately my kid calls up from the ground “Whatcha doing Dad?” and by the grace of God I put my hand down to pivot around and it hits nothing! The next backwards step was into the abyss. Never went back up after that.
Last week my wife says the fuse is dripping water. I check it by wiping it with my fingers. Brilliant.
Who else wants to weigh in on older age stupidity?
I knew a very nice 75 year old Puerto Rican guy who was up on this roof all the time. It was an old tile roof that he was caulking and painting quite often. I was concerned for him.
Anyway he died at age 75 not from his roof work but from an idiot driver mowing him down in what people like to call an accident but to me was sheer stupidity. Some ditsy woman did it during a light rain.
We stopped hanging lights when the cost of electricity soared...Quit buying cigars too cause the price kept going up and up...Stopped using credit cards too due to high interest rates and drive much less because of gas prices....
And I feel much better not giving my money to these greedy bastards and their fatcat cousins....lol
If my wife or child were to be putting up the lights I’d die from a heart attack... not going to happen.
oh my goodness - that made laugh so hard.
Yea we like to think its only the kids doing stupid things, but we know better.
