The Federal Pay Freeze, In Context (Good Chart)
American Spectator ^ | 11/29/2010 | Philip Klein

Posted on 11/29/2010 12:21:31 PM PST by Qbert

Earlier this morning, I noted that President Obama's proposal to freeze the pay of federal employees (excluding the military) for two years wouldn't have much impact on the debt. Now we have more specifics. In his press conference, Obama claimed that the move would save the government $28 billion over five years. Taking that number at face value, that would represent a sixth-tenths of one percent reduction in the projected $4.52 trillion deficit over that same period (2011 through 2015).

[Snip]

To demonstrate this visually, I put together a pie chart.

It's a start, albeit a small start.

And the sad part is- this is taking Obama at his word that it will result in “28 Billion” in savings. We all know how reliable that always winds up being...

I say let’s cut that pie by 2/3 altogether in one big ending of of the FDA, CIA, FBI, Homeland Security, EPA, ATF, Treasury, Education, and all of Obwan’s Marxist CZARS. And cut the damned foreign service by 9/10s. I’m sure our Forefathers never envisioned multi-billion dollar embassies and consulates in so many countries overseas.

And foreign AID? What a crock of crap. We started doing that to buy jerks off from joining the Communists. Now it’s like feeding third generation welfare queens.

Let’s see your source on your $300 bil estimate for “foreign aid”.

Enough savings for Michelle My Belle to take a girls’ night out trip to Rome.

Chance this political charade will actually do any good

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.

I have a cousin who works for the State Department as a foreign consulate. Incredible digs wherever he's assigned and a total Obama supporter...

Yep cut it all, we don’t need the citizen military that oversee the repair of military aricraft. We don’t the Quality assurance Rep making sure the contractor doesn’t leave a bolt out of something small like the rudder (which I have seen). Yep turn it over to the military so an 19 year with less experience and minor education can make sure it works right. Ther will always be some things that the governement will need to oversee. We can always let the military contractors oversee themeselves I’m sure there won’t be fraud, waste and abuse. Never will happen!

It is a start. Enough nickles and dimes and soon you are talking about real money.

We need massive federal payroll reductions, not just freezes. There needs to be layoffs and pay cuts.

Congress needs to work from home. televote from their elected districts.

>>Yep turn it over to the military so an 19 year with less experience and minor education can make sure it works right.<<

I was a 19 year old Marine working on aircraft electrical systems - jets and choppers. Only high school grads got into aviation schools; electrician school was six months long. Flunk the weekly test and you’d be digging foxholes on an island.

In the field, we always worked in teams of two, sometimes three, and checked each others work before signoff. And today’s troops are more educated, better trained and more adept than yesterday’s counterpart.

Our soldiers in the field do an admirable job, there is no doubt about that but so much of the equipment now is so complicated (both in operation and repair) that it is a neccesity to have skilled civilians supporting (and sometimes operating) those systems.
