CNN) -- A computer hacker who calls himself "The Jester" claimed responsibility for the cyber attack which took down the WikiLeaks site Sunday, shortly before it started posting hundreds of thousands of classified U.S. diplomatic cables.

The Jester, who describes himself as a "hacktivist for good," said he took the controversial site down "for attempting to endanger the lives of our troops, 'other assets' & foreign relations."

This is an excellent development. I wonder how long this release can be delayed?

A Freeper? Who knows. If he’s on here, he’s not going to come forward any time soon.

You live by the sword, you die by the sword. Don’t want to hear no whining from Wikileaks. If you can’t take it, don’t dish it out.

The New York Times got an advance copy, it'll be out soon. They won't fail the terrorists types.

The site is back up as of this AM.

The White House (Beltway Bob) is already apologizing...

It was too little, too late.

The documents had already been made available to The New York Times, The Guardian in England, Le Monde in France, Der Spiegel in Germany and El Pais in Spain months earlier.

Several of those publications/websites said they would be putting varying amounts of content on their websites.

I was just listening to an interview with Bill Kristol on WLS about the leaks, his take on it was roughly “See, the world is a dangerous place, and playing nice in diplomacy is not in our best interests.” He seems to think that this will hurt Obama and the Democrats more than anyone this time.

'should be executed as a terrorist. '

We already have laws for leaking documents. But, glad your on the WOT bandwagon for every dam thing.

Wikileaks inc, is not a terrorist group; sad to see people transforming the WOT for a catch all.

How is it that the Regime has found cause to take down upwards of 70 web sites in the last week for copyright infringements, but can’t see fit tot take down wikileaks for what is in essence, copyright infringement of classified documents?

Uhhhh, perhaps because some folks at very high levels of our gubmint want the leaks to happen? That would be my guess. Project Echelon has been in place for decades. Just sayin'.......

Tend to agree that this will show the incompetence and treason of the State Dept Pukes over thew last 10-20 years and hopefully reopen a lot of the malfeasance from the Fed Bureaucracy against this country.

re: classified U.S. diplomatic cables

IMHO, the use of ‘classified’ is way too common, especially in diplomatic circles. As damaging as this might prove to be for a lot of people it’s certainly going to shine the light on how badly we are often served by the diplomats who live in an unreal world.

Nothing would do more to further the cause of America than finding a way to force those in positions of authority to live in the real world with the rest of us. Little things like having to deal with traffic, find and pay for a parking space, stand in line to buy a movie ticket, experience life in the checkout line of a supermarket, and on and on. Anyone who is making rules for others should have to live by those rules themselves!

These communications will certainly help to let the rest of us realize just how misguided our diplomats have become by living in a their make believe world.
