Oh for goodness sakes, it was a slip. It’s clear from the context that it was a slip.

It’s not as though she said “CORPESmen”, as did the “smartest” man on the planet.

Here is the quote:

Palin: Well, North Korea, this is stemming from a greater problem, when we're all sitting around asking, 'Oh no, what are we going to do,' and we're not having a lot of faith that the White House is going to come out with a strong enough policy to sanction what it is that North Korea is going to do. So this speaks to a bigger picture that certainly scares me in terms of our national security policy. But obviously, we've got to stand with our North Korean allies – we're bound to by treaty....

Interviewer: South Korean.

Palin: Yes, and we're also bound by prudence to stand with our South Korean allies, yes.

As I said, it was a slip of the tongue. But, according to the quote above, she did not correct herself. But, it is important to acknowledge such errors, and correct them so there are not misunderstandings. The transcript clearly does not bring in the tones or facial aspects of the conversation.

But, as someone trained to deal with the media, I cannot emphasis how important it is to correct even the most minor slips immediately, and without equivocation.

It appears to me that she was not really focused on what she was actually saying. When I watch her, I always say to myself: "Slow down, take a breath and THINK about what you are going to say."

When this type of thing happens it is clear that she is already onto the next thought--and her mouth is still in gear. This happens to everyone when they are nervous and "excited." I am not criticizing what she said, but rather she should be better at the interview process by now.

It is going to be important for the Palinistas to be able to look at things objectively for the next two years. If you blind yourselves to an objective review of the facts, you are going to be bald from pulling at your hair.

Happy Thanksgiving.

“If Beck was on our side he would have lofted soft ball questions at Palin”

Supposin’ Glenn’s new found Mormon evangelistic zeal might have something to do with this, and might have something to do with who he supports for 2012? Oh, I dunno, perhaps another Mormon, like all his close staffers?

(and I still like Glenn Beck...I’m just sayin’...)

I ceased taking my local liberal rag over ten years ago. My wife is watching over a neighbor's place in their absence and is bringing in their paper. I am very pleased with the fact that it appears to be a mere shadow of its previous self. I look forward to its bankruptcy and I encourage others to take the same steps.

She’s hopeless for speaking. If she’s off prompter, oomph.

Vermont: “But, according to the quote above, she did not correct herself.”

As I said in my previous post, “She’s just continuing her thought from just before the interviewers interjection.”

Look at the point of the gaffe:

Palin: ...But obviously, we’ve got to stand with our North Korean allies – we’re bound to by treaty....

Interviewer: South Korean.

Palin: Yes, and we’re also bound by prudence to stand with our South Korean allies, yes.
++++++++++++++

Vermont, you claimed she said ‘also South Korean...’ - you said quote/unquote on that - and it’s not the case. That’s why I corrected you. She was not referring to ‘North Korean allies’ and ‘also South Korean allies’ as I think you were implying. What she did was, after the interviewer corrected her (I never disputed that) she used the word ‘also’ to continue her previous thought about ‘bound to by treaty’ ‘bound by prudence.’ She continued her thought, after being corrected, and in so doing accepted and confirmed the correction.
++++++++++++++++++

Vermont: “The transcript clearly does not bring in the tones or facial aspects of the conversation.”

This is a good point.

“When I watch her, I always say to myself: “Slow down, take a breath and THINK about what you are going to say.”

This is also good advice. I think Sarah will be fine. Plus she’s really feisty competitor and will not accept the what idiot naysayers say about her (most of whom can’t hold a candle to her accomplishments).

You said: “It is going to be important for the Palinistas to be able to look at things objectively for the next two years. If you blind yourselves to an objective review of the facts, you are going to be bald from pulling at your hair.”

I agree. I don’t call myself a Palinista, nor many that. I think it’s a term for those who see that Sarah Palin could do no wrong, which itself is untrue and false. Anyone vying for great power and achieving great power, is also capable of doing wrong, of doing harm.

“Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
Lord Baron Acton ((1834–1902), historian and moralist

This is why the balance of powers in the US and the US Constitution was such genius. Those Founding Fathers recognized and understood human frailty, weakness and built a system cognizant of such.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

“She’s hopeless for speaking. If she’s off prompter, oomph.”

Have you seen the Palin’s show on TLC? They do quite well off prompter. Also, if any of us was followed and tracked for 2 years, almost 24x7 imagine how gaffe prone and susceptible to ridicule we'd be - even *you* Tolsti2!

I watch this website curiously:

Wait, you’re saying a TLC show is ‘off prompter’?

I heard CBC Canada about 25 minutes ago and the bright newsy voice saying ;Sarah Palin made a misspeak..... The voice left it hanging, no doubt to keep viewers enthralled (laughs). They simply cannot let Sarah go. She is not running for office, simply a citizen doing what she is entitled to do. They have little business themselves in American politics, though they seemed tied hand and foot to the scene.

What must be remarked on is that the accolade from Canadian television on the election of President Obama, was almost unbelievable. The major point that many Canadians may have missed is the almost complete silence regarding the charisma and leadership of the now president. Sure, they show a statement or two, or a mention about his activities, but no gushing, near swooning and platitudes about a new era.

I wonder why?

“Wait, you’re saying a TLC show is ‘off prompter’?”

Actually, it seems like a lot of what they’re doing is extemporaneous, yes. Hey, are you saying that people can’t make mistakes?

Well, once you say a prerecorded scripted show is ‘extemporaneous’ all bets are off.

I bet you don’t think they do more than 1 take too.

I disagree with your assessment of my world.

It appears to me that your original post is one dimensional, as in Sarah Palin should be held to a higher standard than the current resident of the White House.

We are always on the defense, dreading every slip of the tongue of the people we support while the other side has no such fear of those they support. Even though their “gaffes” are not gaffes at all, but a pathway showing their true beliefs. Pelosi’s “pass the bill so you'll know what's in it” was beyond the pale, yet the lack of outrage over such an ignorant Elitist comment only proves the power of the Media in our society.

As I have said many times, it's not the News Reports, it's who Reports the News.

My point was simply that our belief in Conservative values was and will always be treated differently by the Sycophants in the Liberal Media. This Palin “gaffe” pales in comparison to the many Obamunisms that never see the light of day in the public domain.

Happy Thanksgiving...

Well Tolsti, I’ll ask you again, are you saying that people can’t make mistakes?

extemporaneous (def.)

**done unrehearsed: performed without any preparation
**prepared but said without notes: prepared in advance but delivered without notes
**skilled at speaking unrehearsed: skilled at speaking without preparation or notes

So I watched the episode where they were in the fishing boat and just spending family time, etc. Didn’t see any notes - there were bears nearby though - that was pretty fun.

I bet you those bears were part of the 2nd and 3rd takes - right on cue.

Have you even watched that show?

I haven’t watched the show. I’d imagine though, like any reality show, that it is carefully presented and scripted.

I refuse to be a part of this circus. I don’t care if she does x on this show, it IS scripted.

Do you think any other TV shows are unscripted? Or just this one?

“We are always on the defense, dreading every slip of the tongue of the people we support while the other side has no such fear of those they support.”

Right! I’m sick and tired of this. Who cares what the socialist pressers think of Sarah Palin? I’ll defend her against this idiocy as the good, activist, Conservative Governor, Pro-Life, Constitutional Christian mother she is - and guess what she’s allowed to make mistakes like your crappy liberal candidates - and we’ll go from there and take the rest on balance. And she’s got a large bank balance toward true Conservatism (by no means is she perfect.)

And I’m supporting Jim DeMint for POTUS 2012. I would also support Sarah Palin - and would really enjoy a Palin/DeMint ticket also. Dunno if he or she would run on the bottom of that ticket though.

OK, you haven’t watched the show but snidely tell me that I think it’s done in 1 take. Did I ever say/imply that? I bet you think you know what the word extemporaneous means. Look it up and get back to me.

BTW, who do you support for POTUS in 2012?
