HAVING been taught by nuns in grade school and later going through military boot camp, I have always disliked uniformed authorities shouting at me. So I was unhappy last week when some security screeners at OHare International Airport in Chicago started yelling.
Opt out! We got an opt out! one bellowed about me in a tone that people in my desert neighborhood in Tucson usually reserve for declaring, Rattlesnake!
Other screeners took up the Opt out! shout. I was marched from the metal detector lane to one of those nearby whole-body imagers, ordered to take everything out of my pockets, remove my belt and hold my possessions up high. Then I was required to stand still while I received a rough pat-down by a man whose résumé, I suspected, included experience at a state prison.
Hold your pants up! he ordered me.
What did I do to deserve this? Well, as I approached the checkpoints, I had two choices. One was a familiar lane with the metal detector, so I put my bag on that. To my right was a separate lane dominated with what the Transportation Security Administration initially called whole-body imagers but has now labeled advanced imaging technology units. Critics, of course, call them strip-search machines.
I dont like these things, and not just because of privacy concerns or because of what some critics have asserted are radiation safety issues with some of the machines that use X-ray technology.
No, I dont like the fact that I have to remove every item from every pocket, including my wallet and things as trivial as a Kleenex. You then strike a pose inside with your hands submissively held above your head, like some desperado cornered by the sheriff in a Western movie, while the see-through-clothes machine makes an image...

They do NOTHING to make us safer. It is a "make work" job.
Someone tell the GOP House leaders, "You want to save money?" - defund these GS goons.
This is virtual rape, and we don't have to stand for it.
I don’t fly anymore. It’s just become an incredible ordeal, and there’s no longer anywhere worth going that fast.
This picture is a fake. Microwave scanners do not show hair.
This is a little off subject, but not really and I have to go to work asap, so here goes: Yesterday in Stow, MA, an airplane school proprietor and dozens of students....all illegal immigrants...were arrested. The students, maybe 64 or so, had taken flying lessons for the past several years. Their lawyer said in their home countries airplane pilots were regarded as upper middle class, like a lawyer or doctor. They didn’t have plans to fly into buildings. Stow airport is very small, insignificant, but Home Security has egg on its face.
government goon ping
They ought to have the TSA nazis checking packages and leave the people alone.
Down with the TSA and DHS!
Up with American Liberty!
I’ve become cynical in my old age. “Average Joe” government employee want’s to play it safe. When I traveled with my husband, a commercial pilot, we were always singled out for “special screening.” Like being behind the yoke of an airplane wasn’t a big enough threat. (Rolling eyes.) At least they were always nice and apologetic during the pat down. As I explained to a neighbor who Children’s Services was going after for their child’s excessive absenteeism, never mind she was sick and had a doctor’s note, “You’re white. You make them look like they’re doing their job. They’re not going to go into the ghetto and risk being shot. You legitimize them.” I took care of ghetto crack babies for years. The first person the courts ever actually went after was white. They will always take the safe and easy route to say they did their job. Apologies to the 1% that actually do care.
and leave the people alone.
People like the panty bomber?
“Yesterday in Stow, MA, an airplane school proprietor and dozens of students....all illegal immigrants...were arrested.”
Translated- the DOJ cleared them, but didn’t tell them they needed a special visa. BTDT .gov sting. They get to say, “Look, we’re doing our job!” (Time for my blood pressure pills...or something stronger.)
The American people are treated like felons the moment they enter the airport terminal.
It is a hard fact that TSA and the Dept of Homeland Security singles out every other demographic group (other than Muslim males) in order to justify themselves and be politically correct.
Political Correctness killed and maimed many at Fort Hood, and it will kill us all.
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
It really sucks when politicians consider all travelers to be guilty, yet they don't subject themselves to the same abusive treatment.
DHS and TSA need to abolished to the dumpster.
Once, many years ago when I was a college student, got a weekend job doing stadium security at a Rolling Stones concert. We were asked to do "pat down" searches.
The sexual abuse I witnessed in that one night was enough to fill a crime blotter for 10 years.
I’m not going to fly anymore. Already the economy over the past couple of years has limited our family travel to driving vacations, but after reading this and other articles about the horrors brought on by Janet Incompetano, I’m fine with packing up the Tahoe.
And there's the rub.
If someone "put their hands on" Michelle Obama's fat rear end, the world will come to a stop - I guarantee you that.
It was civil, no one searched me, and there was even a wine shop right next to the train. You picked your seat, you could get up, get something to eat, and no one went nuts.
I am a pilot - I flew Air Force cargo jets, Lear 35's, and lots of other stuff.
If the airlines don't take control of this crap, they will be losing business right and left.
I think citizens have had just about ENOUGH of this, like you said.
And... if yer already on the no=fly list wht can’t they just publish a list and/or otherwise make that info available upon request so ya don’t have to go through all that crap—seems like...maybe...they have screwing w/people in mind from da gitgo, huh//!!!!!
