Sharia-Sanctioned Marital Rape in Britain—And North America

As reported in the UK Independent (10/14/10), president of the Islamic Sharia Council in Britain, Sheikh Maulana Abu Sayeed, has reiterated alarming comments made during a March, 2010 interview, sanctioning marital rape.

Sheikh Sayeed was in fact responding to an inchoate effort at modernizing the contracts which govern Muslim marriages in Britain. The good Sheikh, representing Britain’s main Islamic Sharia court, the Islamic Sharia Council, promptly published a rebuttal of the contract, which included a statement on sexual abuse (page 6 here). He opined in the March interview:

Clearly there cannot be any “rape” within the marriage. Maybe “aggression”, maybe “indecent activity.”

He further rejected both the characterization of non-consensual marital sex as rape, and the prosecution of such offenders as “not Islamic.” Sheikh Sayeed, who came to Britain from Bangladesh in 1977, also brazenly expressed his Sharia-supremacism and accompanying disdain for Western, i.e., British Law, stating

…to make it exactly as the Western culture demands is as if we are compromising Islamic religion with secular non-Islamic values.

Sayeed re-affirmed these sentiments to The UK Independent:

In Islamic sharia, rape is adultery by force. So long as the woman is his wife, it cannot be termed as rape.

Crowing with pride during his March 2010 interview, Sheikh Sayeed maintained,

No other sharia council can claim they are so diverse as ours because other sharia councils, they are following one school of fiqh [Islamic jurisprudence]. Ours is diverse –we are hanafi, shafi’i, hanbali.we have Bangladeshi…we have Pakistani, we have Indian, we have Palestinian, we have Somali scholars on our board.

At present there are 16 main sharia courts around Britain, located in Birmingham, Bradford, and Ealing in West London. These institutions are “complemented” by more informal sharia-based tribunals...

Makes you wonder when the non-Muslims who don’t like being victims will take up arms against all this?

I can see it going that way IMO.

Britain has fallen so far, so fast. Back in the early 1900's a British Bobby came upon a group of Indian immigrants building a pyre. He asked what they were doing.

"We're building a pyre to burn the widow of a man who has died. It's our tradition."

The Bobby replied: "It's our tradition to hang people who do that. So go on and carry out your tradition. Then we shall carry out ours."

The feminists obviously think it’s a good idea, or they would be yelling and screaming over it.
But let some Republican say “girl” and they’re outraged.

While Islam seems to be a thousand or so years behind the Western world on most of their laws towards women, sadly they’re only about 19 years behind on this one. English law didn’t recognize the concept of marital rape where the couples were still married and not separated until the early 90s.

Paging Mrs. Bobbit...

My wife knows where the knives are.

Specifically, she uses a line from the cockroaches in the movie Joe’s Apartment: “We know where you live. We LIVE where you live.”

By this logic, it should be ok to repetitively beat a woman for disobediance, lock her in her room, control who she sees, where she goes, etc. That is all consistent with the Sharia partiarchial view that a woman is chattel, belonging to her father, husband or patriarch of the family. It also normalizes domestic violence as a cultural right.

What about the rights of women in the west? Do they not have the same rights as their English/Eurpoean counterparts as soon as they step on English/European soil? Do they continue to have the status of a dog just because they are in their master’s household? What about equal rights and equal justice?

Obviously tolerating or institutionalizing Sharia law conflicts and insults the tenets of modern English/European law. This should NEVER happen in the United States.

Actually, that's usuaully attributed to Gen Charles Napier in colonial India:

The locals told Sir Charles Napier that it was their "custom" to burn widows.

"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours," he told them.

"Makes you wonder when the non-Muslims who don’t like being victims will take up arms against all this"

There were many people in Russia that did not like Communism. How many of them took up arms from 1921 until its fall in 1991? Ask the same question about Nazi Germany.

The point is that, when a culture spirals down beyond a certain point, there is no return. Uprisings require coordination, which is precluded when it is not just the government but the culture itself is totalitarian. In Soviet Russia, you neighbors would give you away before your plans are discovered by the secret police, and the same was true in Nazi Germany. The West today is not very far in deterioration of the culture. Yes, I speak of political correctness, which is dictatorship of the culture rather than the government. Just try to share your reservations about morality of homosexuality around a corporate water cooler of a major corporation --- what do you think will happen to you and for how long will you continue to be employed?

The west has never understood directorship, namely, the fact that dictators don't come to power until the culture itself becomes sufficiently dictatorial or at least sufficiently amenable to dictatorship.

The fact that a group of people can rise up against a government indicates that such a group exists, hence there is still sufficiently large diversity of opinion, and culture is not dictatorial as a whole. Once it become such, there is no return, and armed uprisings become impossible.

Whether we have already reached that state can be debated. My humble observations about Britain, coupled with the confiscation of guns a decade ago, lead me to believe that Britain is beyond that point.

Islam is Evil. Bleeding hearts will say “oh no, it’s not all of Islam, it’s just a few bad apples.” Well then, when the non-bad apples take up arms against the crazies, then I’ll believe that. But so far, the only ones to do the job are the Christians and Jews. So, like it or not, agree or not, this is shaping up to be a world war with Christians and Jews against Islam. And I dont know who will win. The Buddhists and whatever are passive, don’t like war? Well neither do I. Douglas MacArthur said “The soldier above all others prays for peace, because he knows the terrible cost of war.” But sometimes you have to make sacrifices, of your body and your mind, for a greater cause.

I think it could end up with all the modern world against radical Islam (which IMO is 95% of them, the remaining being agnostic and not practicing their cult’s faith).
