Neoconservatives: The True Centrists
American Thinker ^ | Oct 22, 2010 | Mark Cantora

No matter the reluctance of neo-conservatives to engage in this type of egotism, the fact remains that there does exist a movement of intellectuals who share similar commitments to a strong national defense and a recoupling of politics with traditional morality. And, for better or for worse, the world knows this movement as neo-conservatism.

But what the world generally fails to recognize is that this philosophy has made the neo-conservatives, the only real moderates in American politics and political philosophy, the eternal purveyors of centrist common sense.

Yea, that “compassionate conservative” and “new tone” business was a real home run. Lets get together, sing songs, and spend other people’s money like a drunken sailor on leave.

As Reagan said, drunken sailors spend their own money, not someone Else’s.

It’s great to have many perspectives in politics. The problem with what they have been doing is the same problem as what the left does.

We made an agreement regarding the nature and character of the central government in 1787, and what role the sates would play, and how the rules of the road could be changed. It does not matter where one fits on the political spectrum, or the ideology of the party in power, or what a particular justice happens to belive about a living constitution. They do not have the power to ignore it, or change it at will with abstracts, as they were not given that power — that went to the states.

When centrists, or even those on the left want to start respecting that agreement, then they will have earned my respect. Until then, I don’t care who or what they are, it is just another name for tyrant.

Neo-Con’s are moral relativists, who believe they are the ruler-elite from Plato's Republic.

The Tea Party are the ‘centrists’. I have not changed my views since they were formed in the 60’s. They have pegged me all the way from a JFK Liberal to now a Far Right whacko. I have not really changed my mind about much of anything.

I just want to add that when the constitution was ratified, it was not done by the state legislatures. There was a special election of delegates in each state for the sole purpose of ratification. Therefore, the constitution is a political agreement with the people, not necessarily with the states, that was recognized as LAW, not some abstract conjecture.

This sheds a little bit of light on what might have been going through the minds of those participating in the whiskey rebellion, what they thought about the meaning of enumerated powers and who decides what is constitutional. Of course I do not recommend violence. I am just pointing out that states are not the only entities with nullification powers, although it probably lends more credibility to the cause for a state legislature to be involved than civil disobedience alone.

When I was a kid all I did was have a lot of fun and go to the beach. I was glad that responsible people were running the government. I did not ask for any freebies and I liked it when JFK said ‘Ask not what your country can do for you’. Today he would be considered a far right extremist.
Now all they do is ask what the government can do for them.

At least the T-Party is exposing them. People are so Politically illiterate. For years I had to listen to friends say stuff like. I am not going to worry about things I can not control. Drove me crazy to hear that. Now we are going to pay the Piper no matter what we do. There is no easy way out of this no matter who wins the election.

Problem is, there has been no alternative to NeoConservatism offered up by Conservative Think Tanks, basically the choice is NeoCons or Paulian draw down.
