Obama Shouldn't Dismiss Voter Concern (Even M Gerson coming around to O's arrogance)
rcp ^ | 10/19/2010 | michael gerson

After a series of ineffective public messages -- leaving the political landscape dotted with dry rhetorical wells -- President Obama has hit upon a closing argument.

"Part of the reason that our politics seems so tough right now," he recently told a group of Democratic donors in Massachusetts, "and facts and science and argument (do) not seem to be winning the day all the time is because we're hard-wired not to always think clearly when we're scared. And the country is scared."

Let's unpack these remarks.

Though there is plenty of competition, these are some of the most arrogant words ever uttered by an American president.

The neocortical presidency destroys the possibility of political dialogue. What could Obama possibly learn from voters who are embittered, confused and dominated by subconscious evolutionary fears? They have nothing to teach, nothing to offer to the superior mind. Instead of engaging in debate, Obama resorts to reductionism, explaining his opponents away.

It is ironic that the great defender of "science" should be in the thrall of pseudoscience. Human beings under stress are not hard-wired for stupidity, which would be a distinct evolutionary disadvantage. The calculation of risk and a preference for proven practices are the conservative contributions to the survival of the species. Whatever neuroscience may explain about political behavior, it does not mean that the fears of massive debt and intrusive government are irrational.

Good news folks! The Obama Kool Aid is wearing off. All those 'conservative' commentators who drank Barry's Brew are waking up and feeling quite a case of buyers remorse. Peggy Noonan, David Brooks, and now, Michael Gerson are finally coming to grips with the fact that they have been had.

We FReepers knew who Barry was and what he wanted to do the country, but the talking heads, liberal or 'conservative' all sang Barry's praises from the same hymnal (not from Rev Wright's church).

Now, as Barry has had almost two years to display the arrogance and narcissim he is consumed with, even the MSM can't deny the obvious. The 'conservative' element is reacting with a lot of indignation that Barry would act so superior to us huddled masses. I just wish we had had an antidote for Barry's Kool Aid before the 2008 election. Better late than never, I guess.

Interpreting Obama does not require psychoanalysis or the reading of mystic Chicago runes. He is an intellectual snob.

Not that there is anything wrong with this. Some of my best friends are intellectual snobs. But they don’t make very good politicians. Somehow an aristocrat such as Franklin Roosevelt was able to convince millions of average Americans that he was firmly on their side. But the old social aristocracy could have been taught a thing or two about snobbery by the intellectual upper class — conditioned to believe their superiority is founded not on wealth or lineage but on “facts and science and argument.”

What must Democrats trying to compete in Pennsylvania or Ohio think when they hear Obama make arguments such as these? Do they realize the tremendous mistake they have made, tying their political fortunes to a leader who makes Michael Dukakis, Al Gore and John Kerry look like prairie populists in comparison?

These are the dirty people clinging to their guns and religion. They will have to be exterminated to build the peoples paradise. Get with the progrom.

None of these people should ever be trusted again. Sunshine patriots at best. The trashheep of history, along with their former friends, the progressives, is where they belong.

Barry could do something useful with his life and his personality deficits. He could start a new AA group called, “Arrogant Anonymous”. There are enough potential members in DC to open many chapters. “My name is Barry and I am arrogant”, etc.

I can sum this up for you very quickly Mr. Obama. people are tired of the talking. We want results. $3 trillion later and 10% unemployment, record foreclosures, and bankruptcy is not anyone’s idea of good results.

Well, no. He is more than just an intellectual snob, or maybe I should say less. And psychoanalysis is relevant. He is TOTALLY self-concerned, TOTALLY self-loving. He has no sympathy or feeling whatever for anyone but himself. In other words, he is a malignant narcissist. Sorry, but that is becoming more and more obvious every day.

And he is also a flaming Marxist, brought up as a Communist from birth by his Stalinist family and mentors.

And he is also a Muslim fanatic.

And he also hates whites, Christians, and Western civilization.

And a reactionary populism can be disturbing when it targets minorities, immigrants and intellectuals.

Just because Gerson has finally concluded that Obama is an arrogant snob doesn't mean that he has elevated his appreciation for Tea Partiers.

He still thinks we're racists. And "anti-intellectual"...

Gerson remains an arrogant creep.

". . . because we're hardwired not to always think clearly when we're scared,"

Tell that to the courageous men who, without any government "intellectuals" or planners, made such wise decisions about how to survive, once they became trapped in the Chilean mine!

America's Taxed Enough Already citizens are seeing the light of liberty, so nobly lit in 1776 and protected in 1787, being extinguished right before their eyes. They, like the miners, are developing strategies for allowing that liberty to survive for the sake of future generations.

That's OK. The feeling has become mutual. From all the TV exposure, I genuinely believe I have never hated any living creature so much in my life.
