I did not know that, re Kalliope being the Muse of heroic poetry. I read the Odyssey with my Middle Schoolers, but not the original. Very cool bit of info, thanks.

At times, it reveals itself, and, when it does, the depth and breadth of the knowledge of the "FR Meta-mind" (new term?) is awesome!

I recall putting my fingers in my ears when the steam calliope on Barnum & Bailey's parade wagon came by on its circuit inside the "Big Top" -- playing Julius Fucik's iconic circus march, "Entrance (or 'Entry') of the Gladiators". (To circus folk, AKA "Thunder and Blazes"...)
