Bristol Palin: 'I Talk About Abstinence, Then I'm Out in My Underwear'
Extra.com ^ | October 13, 2010 | Staff

It's possible that teen mom Bristol Palin may be regretting her barely-there outfit and sexy dance moves from Monday night's "Dancing with the Stars" performance.

The political daughter showed some serious skin in her rumba with partner Mark Ballas, and she may think twice next time. "I go around and I talk about abstinence, then I'm out here in my underwear," she told "Extra." Her hindsight is getting clearer.

Whether Bristol questioned it or not, her parents Sarah and Todd Palin did not. "They were proud of me," she said. "They thought I did a good job and I'm happy with that."

On Tuesday's elimination, Bristol was at the bottom of the chopping block, but it was "Jersey Shore's" Mike "The Situation" and his partner Karina Smirnoff who got the boot. Skipping a press line backstage, Mike left Karina to speak to the media.

I didn’t think the outfit was all that bad at all. Maybe my standards are different. I don’t know.

Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas competing on "Dancing With the Stars." Palin also has been a paid speaker on behalf of sexual abstinence for teens.

I did not see the show and do not ever plan to see it. But I have seen ballroom dancing contests; and the ladies are usually dressed quite provocatively during those rumba numbers. I suspect Bristol looked no more slutty than any other female ballroom dancer.

I agree. Her outfit was fine. It actually says something good that she felt it was perhaps slighly inappropriate. She's like a woman in a one-piece bathing suit, surrounded by women in skimpy bikinis, but she's still thinking "Maybe I should have a coverup?"

It's easy to criticize, but I think she's trying to make good choices, and I can't say that joining a dance contest is a terrible sin -- so I give her a pass.

Her costumes are very modest; no cleavage, bare midriff or butt cheeks showing.

So far this season, the “stars” have been eliminated in order of their actual performance. Of the remaining stars, Florence and Kurt Warner show go next; and then Bristol.

That said, it would not be unjust if Bristol is eliminated next week.

Bristol, darlin’, it sounds like you are beginning to grow up, but the trick is to have these moments of enlightenment BEFORE you agree to pull your clothes off.

This is getting tedious.
Here we go again.....Lock Bristol away....FOR GODs Sake, where’s her burka.
This kid is so modest that it will probably cost her the show. She works extremely hard each week but is horribly uncomfortable being sexy. She’s a good kid that made a mistake but lives her life trying to fix it and make good of it.
Does everyone here have kids that have never made a mistake? Are all of the kids here perfect?
I can hear it coming “but her mom is in politics and all that this brings....” well, she’s a human and if her parents aren’t such stuffed shirts about it, why cant you be?
I find her modesty refreshing, she was hardly bare.

What the crap is a “political daughter”...?

She is a kid, most (male and female) are fertile and pretty as all get out in the youth.

This is a natural reality that produces all those cute little young things everywhere.... That grow into the big ugly things everywhere. This applies from prion to human, and everything between.

Yeah, cuz adult women should be kept locked away, dressed in burkas, and treated like property.

Maybe she could be forced to convert to Islam.

Amazing...I watched the whole thing, and I thought there were some other outfits more risque than what Bristol wore.

This girl is NOT Monica Lewinsky, and she doesn't have to be hidden out back in the barn for the rest of her life for the same mistake that thousands of teenage girls make every year...and she did choose to NOT abort it.

Meanwhile the National Palin-haters society are throwning stones from their glass houses and accomplishing nothing. There are so many sour grapes coming from the left, we could make a tank of sour wine.

Whether she gets voted off, or not, I applaud her for having the courage of her Mother, and not slinking down into oblivion because some skanky anchor-babe had something negative to say about it.

The people who are slamming her are the same ones who would advise their own kids to "dance like no one's looking". Most of the mistresses of the left act more like "Rose's mother" (from Titanic) than normal, adult human beings...elitists all.

So you dance Bristol, the let them talk. The network didn't bleep, or black-out anything your did, or wore, so let the rest of them go and wash their ACLU T-shirts, and you hang in there.

I would love to see those slamming her get out there on the dance floor and do any better.

Compared to what the other dancers wear, her outfits are very conservative attire. Her comments remind of what her mom said about being in a beauty contest - that she felt embarassed parading around in a skimpy outfit almost revealing her butt. These are two decent women.

Bristol has nothing to be ashamed of in this dance contest, she is doing just fine. The tabloids made her a celebrity, and she is justified in taking advantage of it to support her child.

Bristol is trying hard but she is being used by the producers.

They always manage to trash her up or trash the act up.

It started with the first night song pick - “Mama Told Me Not To Come.”
How subtle is that!

Compare her outfit this week to most of the others.
There are too many people eager to use her to dug at her mom.
She is too naive to be let out alone.

That photo of Bristol laying on the floor half naked with that man on top of her was what we called “soft porn” just a generation ago.

“Hard porn” was when they had their clothes off and there were close-ups of intimate contact.

But this is still PORN in my book, and Bristol is disgracing her family by participating in it.

Some weeks back, there was a thread about Bristol going on “Dancing with the Stars” ( http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2597335/posts ), and I called it a “wanton exhibition of bad taste”.

For that, I was excoriated and castigated with personal attacks throughout the thread.

I submit that this disgusting photo vindicates me.

Lighten up naysayers!

This is a DANCE competition, and a fairly rated G-PG one at that. It’s not a wet t-shirt contest!

Rumba, salsa, and Latin dances have been around for decades and are traditionally passionate. This is not porn, this is not dirty dancing. This is a beautiful dance with a long history, that is celebrated all over the world in ballroom dancing competitions.

I agree with you word for word.

Being beautiful is not a sin. People need to lighten up. Does being pretty help her on a television show ? yes.

Sarah Palin is beautiful too, but I never found her all that attractive because she is almost the exact same age as and she reminds me too much of my mom.

looks do matter on tv.

Thats why I prefer to work in radio and I accept that I have no future in television. I have a good radio face. LOL

You've got it. On the show, they showed a rehearsal where Bristol was having very mixed feelings about being sexy. Mark Ballas (dance partner) placed his hands (on his own body) and went through a set of locations, defining them: "Sensual ... sensual ... sensual ... sensual."

Then he switched gears, and went through a new set of locations: "Trashy ... trashy ... trashy."

Not everyone will agree with Bristol's decisions, but she and Mark are very publicly demonstrating that everyone makes choices, and we need to think about things and make choices with which we feel comfortable, and stay away from things that feel wrong to us.

Everyone makes mistakes. Bristol's doing a pretty good job of showing what it looks like to come back and do it better the second time.

She’s about the most conservative dresser and dancer on that show. She looked like “rsiky business” Her shyness and her “homemade” looking costumes are going to get her eliminated.

Florence Henderson was a slutty old woman. NOT APPROPRIATE.

LOL, ain’t that the truth!

I have a son who’s about her age. He’s really quite sensible and usually thinks before he acts...notice I said “usually.”

I tell him that evidence proves that the human brain isn’t fully developed till a person is 25. And a person’s body starts to decline at age 27...so get ready, he’ll have 2 good years in there where he’s thinking clearly and his body isn’t fighting against him. :)

One need not be a “would be Muhammedan” in order to heed, say, C. S. Lewis’ classic observation that while a particularly concealing standard of dress is no guarantee of virtue, and a particularly revealing standard of dress is no guarantee of vice, it is well for younger generations to respect the sensibilities of older ones while the standard is in a state of flux.
