Republicans need to man up and ask black voters, 'Are you better off?'

The monolithic pro-Democratic black vote is a clear and present danger to America.

As recently as 1956, the GOP captured 39 percent of the black vote. If Republicans can seize just 20 or 30 percent of the black vote, the Democratic Party -- and its ability to pull the country to the left -- could be stopped, if not reversed.

"The 'black vote'?" I said to a white Republican politician who asked my advice. "I'll tell you how to go after it, but you won't do it."

"Try me," he said.

Politicians, both Democrats and Republicans, treat blacks like children. When a Republican addresses a black audience, you can make book on how long it takes before he refers to Martin Luther King, Jr. Either he marched with King or his father did, or the next-door neighbor of his barber's nephew used to mow the Rev. King's father's lawn.

As long as the black vote is a referendum on empathy, compassion and "civil rights," Republicans lose. Nobody can "feel your pain" like a spread-the-wealth, entitlement-expanding, "close-the-inequality-gap" leftist.

"The struggle for civil rights is over," I told him. "The good guys won. The battle now is against wrongheaded 'compassionate' policies. But the most important issue -- by far -- is education."

Republicans need to ask blacks, "Are you better off?" Are blacks better off sending their children to assigned government schools -- as demanded by the teachers unions and the Democratic Party?

Inner-city parents know that urban government-run schools have a nearly 50 percent dropout rate and that even the kids who graduate often cannot read, write, or compute at grade level. They know that poor teachers end up getting transferred to urban schools, where other parents are less likely to object to their incompetence.

Irrelevant question to the black community...they don’t care...all they want is handouts, coddling, and “social justice.”

Not too sure it will work. Unfortunately blood is often thicker than reason and logic. But I am encouraged by the large number of high quality blacks running for Congress this years as Republicans.

It is the poor who habitually elect Democrats-—yet they are still .....................
POOR

“You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away people’s initiative and independence. You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.”

You make a good point, what have the Republicans to loose by challenging the black voters on their beliefs and voting habits?

Politicians, both Democrats and Republicans, treat blacks like children.

One of my life lessons is that politicians treat most people like children. The paternalism (in both parties) is stunning.

Big City Governments are almost 100% Democrat and have been responsible for a decline over many years in their cities, the quality of life and the schools where large black populations live. yet, year in and year out these same incompetents are returned to office. It doesn’t seem to matter that they continue to be worse off under Democrat Government. Since Obama took office, Black Unemployment has gone up by almost 50%, but as a voting block they support him with 90%-95%. Could that possibly be construed as Racist? Without that Black support, Obama’s approval rating would be in the mid-low thirties.

Unfortunately, I think many of the inner-city communities may know which party’s policies caused the blight, but so long as they allow their “leaders” to tell them how to vote it’s going to continue.

Of course it's racist. the average American black lives their entire life driven by racism. They voted for obama because he is black. no other reason needed.

I disagree. Don’t appeal to their color. Appeal to their conservatism.

The race game is a loser.

If they can’t be swayed by a conservative message then they can’t be converted.

Leave the race baiting to the Just Us brothers.

I’ve had a lot of black friends in my time. One older lady in particular I worked with in the early 1990s decried the degradation of our culture, welfare dependency, the “gay rights” push, the explosion of crack use in the inner cities, high taxes and crime.

Yet, she voted straight Dem in 1992.

When I asked her what was it that motivated her to do that since their policies had created the conditions she complained about. Her answer: “We blacks just vote that way... it’s what we always do.”

Don’t appeal to their color. Appeal to their conservatism.

That's how McDonnell was able to do so well with the hispanics and many blacks here in VA in 2009. He spoke to the economic freedom and benefits of limited government and how he supported entrepreneurship through lower taxes and more business-friendly policies. He kept clear of the immigration and civil rights issues during the campaign and stressed what Virginians are capable of, if government gets off their backs.

While many in the ethnic communities are incorrigibly democrat, Republicans could still make some inroads if they replicate the McDonnell message. GOPers should shoot some video in blighted cities and use it in their campaign commercials, with the message... "We've tried it their way for a long time... is it working?"

Well that's an intelligent answer.
