Many Republicans know and love a gay person. Some of the gays are in their families and don’t like their loved ones being called dysfunctional. I don’t think it’s smart politics for Paladino to be so in-your-face about it. Flame away.

Paladino hasn’t named any one person as dysfunctional. He is stating a case for homosexuality itself as form of personality dysfunction. There is a difference.

A relative of mine was homosexual and suddenly, to everyone’s surprise, decided to walk away from that lifestyle and CHOSE to marry a member of the opposite sex. Why? Who knows!

There have been so many of these instances where people, either heterosexual or homosexual, decide to switch that the argument, “I was born this way”, no longer applies.

The result is either a personality (or sexual) dysfunction. It doesn’t mean that a person is crazy or a danger to the rest of the public. Far from it. It just means there is something not quite ‘straight’ (pardon the pun!) going on with that person’s personality.

Just because someone is delusional, it doesn't mean you don't have the responsibility to tell them the truth.

If our political and religious leaders (not to mention parents) were better about telling the truth, even when it's inexpedient, many of our societal problems would go away.

Don't know if you are aware, but the current Governer, David Paterson, as well as the previous one, Eliot Spitzer, were trying their best to get same sex marriage approved in NY by the stroke of the pen. I think Paladino was just trying to reassure his audience that in no uncertain terms will it happen on his watch.

I agree. It's so easy for some FReepers who don't know anyone who was born gay to insult and be cruel about it. I liken being born gay to being born with autism or Downs or any other disability. People cannot help being gay. Let them live their lives, and encourage them to live both modestly and conservatively.

There are FReepers who have little children who prefer the toys and clothing of the opposite sex, and it is nothing that the family did wrong. If Paladino is going to call gays dysfunctional, I hope he will please also call those with Down Syndrome dysfunctional, and then his definition will at least fit.

And many Republicans know and love someone who has had an abortion. . . that doesn’t mean you can’t talk about it. Love the sinner, hate the sin. None of us have to “accept” actions we believe are wrong. We do not have to accept homosexuality, and neither does Palladino. Not hate, just not “acceptance”. He’s going for broke here and I applaud him. Win or lose, he’s honest.

Conservatives who know and love a person in their family who is homosexual know for a fact that homosexuality is a mental illness (unless people are lying to themselves or remaining purposely ignorant).

Loving someone who is homosexual (”gay” means happy and carefree, not homosexual, it’s a propaganda term) means being willing to tell them the truth - that no one is born “gay” and they can change.

I agree it was not a wise political move to word it so harshly, but I'm not so sure about your larger point. For example: I am conservative and have a relative who, for decades, I was certain was a homosexual (turns out he wasn't). I loved him no less then than I do now, but the whole time I believed him to be gay, I also believed there was something mentally wrong with him. No conflict, and I wouldn't have withheld a vote from a candidate who open criticized homosexuality as a mental disorder. But then I'm a conservative--I don't know how many libs could look beyond their emotions. Probably not many. I think Paladino loses but helps reawaken the resistance in New England.

homosexuals who have got their life turned round have said that homosexuality is dysfunctional too.

There is nothing normal about a man poking another man.

Nature intended for a male and a female to reproduce.
The left or those on the far left, commies, socialists are now trying to say that their way of getting off sexually is normal.

The commie manifesto even says that in order to destroy America and the west they have to go after traditional normal families and to promote homosexuality.
