ABC News: Year After Obama Won Nobel, World Looks for Signs of Peace
ABC News ^ | October 8, 2010 | By RUSSELL GOLDMAN

One year after the Nobel prize jury made its controversial decision to award President Obama the prize for world peace, a larger jury is still waiting for the president to live up to those lofty expectations.

Even some of Obama's allies -- like former Nobel laureates Al Gore and Jimmy Carter -- declined to assess his performance in fulfilling what the peace prize said was his "vision" of world harmony.

The one year anniversary of Obama's prize comes as fighting is escalating in Afghanistan, the war in Iraq continues to smolder and Obama struggles to keep fledgling Middle East peace talks from collapsing. Drones are firing missiles in unprecedened numbers and confrontations with Iran and North Korea are hotter than ever.

In addition, wars rage in Somalia, Africa, Asia and South America, fueled by religion, tribal hatreds, poverty and piracy.

Despite repeated calls by ABCNews.com., the White House declined to comment on how it believed the president advanced the cause of peace this year.

The Nobel prize is a joke.

Which is sad, because it used to stand for excellence and honor in the related fields. Now it's used as a political weapon.

That pretty much says it all. No doubt if Nobel Prize Winner Yasir Arafat were still alive, he would also refuse to comment.

I think the Nobel committee figured out how ashamed they should be for giving the Nobel to someone who has accomplished nothing except for

"being elected while not reflecting as much light as other presidents".

As was seen on the sign of a quick lube place:

Free Nobel Prize with oil change

Very, very stupid from the “committee”. What it was really was an FU to Bush combined with Euro liberal-white guilt.

More evidence that Obama was the poorest choice possible for the Nobel Prize.

Obama if anything has made world affairs much much worse by his speeches, appearances and his policies.

The worst US president in American history!

Will they use the Nobel Prize again this year to show their hatred for George W. Bush? That's the only reason Obama won last year. Who would be the choice if that was their intent? Cindy Sheehan? Code Pink?

They could just go the generic anti-American route...pick the Gitmo detainees, or Ahmedinejad (but maybe that would be going too far even for a European), or or Bill Ayers, John Kerry or Jesse Jackson.

It was wishful thinking - at the very least.

Apologizing to foreign leaders over past events—A-Bomb dropped on Japan, burying ones head in the sand hoping to ignore a potential conflict —North Korea—and trying to establish a dialogue with a group of people who want you dead —the Islamic world—does not bring peace but rather shows weakness.

What did Orwell say? War is Peace?

Obama is the architect of the destruction of democracy as we know it.

I still don’t get how he won. did he draft a plan and submit it to the judges? What exactly keyed the judges to award him the prize?

I said when they awarded it - it was a great perennial gift to Obama's political opponents. Every year we're going to get to ask, yet again - WTF? And more and more people will ask that with each passing year.

The Committee gave it to him because they imagined he was going to replace war with unicorns dancing on cotton candy rainbows.

A handful of fey nitwit eurowimps set the bar so high, it was impossible for him not to fail. Like America's dim bulb presidente is going to end 200,000 years of war, based on his super coolness or something. After all, he wore sunglasses and rode a bike with his wife and stuff!

Surprisingly harsh commentary from a political ally like ABC.

Typical liberal eurospeak - - - He did not receive it for what he has done but for what he might do. They truly are crazy.

“Obama is the architect of the destruction of democracy as we know it.”

Our first terrorist president. He has done more economic damage than the 9/11 attacks. He has done more to undermine the republic, more damage to the constitution, more damage to the free markets and our way of life...

This tyrant must be pulled out of office.
