Citizen comes to kidnapped girl's rescue in Fresno - Telecast of suspect's truck leads to arrest

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - An eight-year-old girl was playing with a friend in the driveway of the apartment complex where she lived with her family earlier this week. Molestation suspect 24-year-old Gregorio Gonzalez lured the older girl with the promise of gifts -- and then forced her into an older rust-colored Chevrolet pickup truck with white stripes.

The girl's mother and a neighbor pursued the girl and her abductor in a vehicle chase, but quickly lost them.

Authorities issued an Amber Alert, which quickly escalated to a statewide bulletin about a small girl last seen wearing a purple "Winnie the Pooh" sweatshirt. About 130 officers were put on the case, and helicopters scanned the city. Alerts flashed on freeway signs and appeared during television shows.

Just down the street from where the girl was kidnapped, unemployed construction worker Victor Perez turned on the TV to see if there was anything new in the case.

It was then a special TV alert about the kidnapping was broadcast when both Perez and a relative saw Gonzalez's truck make a U-turn in front of their home.

Perez gave chase in his 1988 Ford pickup and waved Gonzalez down. Stopping to speak to him briefly, Gonzalez sped away - this time, Perez forced Gonzalez to the side of the road when Gonzalez threw his hands over his head in anger.

He had apparently been holding the little girl down with his hands. When his hands shot up, her head popped up over the dashboard and Perez saw her.

"I made eye contact with her. And that's when I wasn't scared anymore," Perez said. "I won't kid you, until then I'd thought 'Does this guy have a gun?' But once I met her eyes, I just thought 'I've got to get that little girl out of there.'"

“Gonzalez, on felony probation was later arrested after several witnesses identified him.”

But of course. Thank you Judge Lunkhead, whoever and wherever you are. Fool.

This guy is a man I really admire and am grateful for. God bless him! Thank God there are people out there who care enough to risk it to help a little girl.

Cynical as we rightfully deserve to be about this fiend’s record, you can bet some new judge is going to give him a sentence so long he’ll be in Folsom prison for pretty much the rest of his life. Just hand him a harmonica and slide his meals under the cell door.

Yes, thanks! This guy's a true hero.

I also hope he has, or obtains, personal protection (I'm thinking firearms) now that it's public knowledge that he took out a gang member... and look out for his family as well. He's a hero, but he may also be a marked man.

I hope the little girl comes out of this okay. She's been through some rough treatment. But thank God she's alive and can recover.

Hundreds of times a day in this country, regular people choose to testify in open court in gang related crimes...

If all the victims and witnesses choose to hide and cower in fear, we're done.

I wasn't suggesting hiding or cowering in fear. I was suggesting that it might be a good time to exercise his 2nd Amendment rights, if he hasn't done so already. Living where he does, it seems to me to be a prudent precaution even if one has -not- testified.

Way out in the country where I live, it's not so much of an issue of safety as of hunting or plinking (I've got a couple of rifles, no handguns at present). But today, if I lived in or near a big city, I'd get a CCW permit.

I'm not nearly as adept with a large knife as Mick Dundee, and anyway, it's not wise to bring even a large knife to a gun fight. :)

This guy is out of Fresno, and a 24 year old perverted kidnapper of an 8 year old little girl.

Just a guess, but I'd say even his buddy gangsters ain't coming to his rescue...Ya see, even the gangsters have codes and degrees of respect...I'm pretty confident this little AH was not doing conducting gang business when he decided to kidnap and molest a little 8 year old girl. In other words, the guy is not a respectable gangster, and likely just made himself a target of his own people...

I tend to agree. There is a macho code they stick to, and it doesn’t include molesting children. He will be a pariah. And when he gets to prison, he is going to have problems with his own gangbangers.
