Dan Mitchell from the Center for Freedom and Prosperity Foundation has a new video out detailing why it is absolutely not necessary to raise taxes to balance the budget. He shows with just a small amount of fiscal restraint, the federal budget can be balanced within six years.

A spending freeze is a good first step, and Mitchell points out that if we do freeze spending at current levels, the budget could be balanced within years instead of decades.

Right at the start of the video, Mitchell points out spending is the problem. He also mentions Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution clearly details what the federal government’s responsibility is. Sound familiar?

The best way to balance the budget is to get rid of the federal reserve and get the printing presses AWAY from the greedy “us” government.

Tax increases modify behavior and lower revenue. I am not an economist but I am not alone with the observation that in an economy similar to what we have seen in recent years the revenue loss will be exaggerated.

I just don’t understand why the Republicans don’t use this when talking about the “Bush tax cuts” I would not call them tax cuts. They are tax increases and the taxes are not the problem it is the SPENDING STUPID!

I've been talking about this for a few years, now. Just restrict spending increases to inflation plus population growth - no more, no less. In a few decades the deficit goes away, and in a few decades after that, the debt disappears.
