Well here is a punch in the stomach to those who pandered to Hispanics over the summer by bashing Arizona and its Republican Governor Jan Brewer for passing the immigration law known as SB 1070. According to the latest report from Gallup, Hispanics have peeled off from Democrats in August and September.
Hispanics' Preferences Shift, While Whites' and Blacks' are Stable
Hispanic voters' support for Democratic candidates waned in August and September. As a result, Hispanics in September favored Democrats by a 13-point margin (51% to 38%), compared with 32-point margins in June and July.
Whites in September favored Republican over Democratic candidates by a 14-point margin, similar to their support level in most other months this year. The vast majority of blacks continued to favor Democrats.
This is quite the "duh" moment, considering the vitriolic campaign from the left over anybody who voiced concern over the illegal immigration and border security issue. The mistake that is made so often, though, is that hispanics in the United States are composed of various individuals of various races from different countries and territories throughout the world

I would expect that to be true of most LEGAL Hispanics.

Dems think all latinos are automatically theirs. My personal experiences with latinos is that they are conservative. The militants in that community have loud voices and would be causing chaos regardless of their national origin. There are communists & anti civilization goons of every stripe and many of the liberal organizers of this community are out for power and personal gain, caring little for their community, just their own political power. The immigrant families I personally know all favor the Arizona law. I’ve lived in California for 60 years so have many hispanic friends.
If true, there are still WAY too many ignorant Hispanics in this country. Vote Democrat and live like ... well, I guess I shouldn't identify the other ethnic group in this public forum...
Same here .. most of the immigrant Hispanics that I encounter every day are friendly hard working people who came to the US for a better life for themselves and their family, and are accomplishing such in their everyday toils. The American Dream in action, as it were :)
Obviously the Dems see these immigrants as yet another ethnic group to exploit for their own political power gain, as Rats are wont to do, and have tried to put Hispanics into the Dem class warfare camp, with some success ... but I think that success is fleeting at best, and will backfire on the Rats very soon, as the people they are courting are NOT of the same mindset as the entitlement class which makes up the Dem party.
One of my friends is a legal American Mexican (several generations removed) and she is part Latina, and is also the leader of our local Tea Party group!~

Last time I saw a poll by race it was still in the 90s. But I was wrong to say it “works on Blacks.” I should have said it works on the majority of Blacks.

I agree with you. It’s watered down by the illegal immigration flood but still I think there are many more who would act on common sense politics if they weren’t actively pushed away.
When a loud nasty wing of the republicans attack candidates like Florina and McCain for simply campaigning to the Hispanic demographic, many have to think they have no where to go but with the dems. “Juan” is not an epithet, but when you see it used as an epithet and your name IS Juan, how could they be expected to vote for that side.
Black support may have declined from 96% to 95%. It is wasted effort trying to convert them from the Democrat plantation. They are the core of the Dem party. The best you can hope for is they do not show up at the polls. Hispanics, on the other hand, can be converted wihtout necessarily pandering to them as a group.
The way it works is, Catholic Hispanics are liberal and vote democrat, Protestant Hispanics are conservative and vote about 50/50.
The whole Catholic vote itself, is not as conservative as the Protestant Hispanic vote is.
I think the Wash. Times is misreading the poll.
Although it may be quite true that Dominicans and Peruvian immigrants have different opinions on closing the borders for security from those of Mexican origen, the fact remains that the overwhelming numbers of Hispanic immigrants in this country are of Mexican descent.
If the poll surveyed the Hispanic community with some proportionality, then the results must be even worse for the Dems.
This election is becoming comical. I expect the next headline to report that the hapless Dems have lost the black vote.

If we do well in this cycle it just means we are back in the fight instead of on the ground. It does NOT mean we have blown up the deathstar.

This kind of anger often is misread by observers. Just like when Dubya's poll numbers were very low: many pundits believed that Americans were against his 'conservative' positions, while in fact his numbers were low because many conservatives considered him RINO with his positions on bailouts, immigration, and others, and they disapproved of him.
