Christine O'Donnell's Schiavo Case: 'Life For Lauren' (Inquiring minds want to know...)
TPM ^ | September 24, 2010, 8:44AM | Rachel Slajda

Posted on 09/24/2010 9:49:52 AM PDT by DelaWhere

You know that Christine O'Donnell is pro-life. But one episode that hasn't gotten much attention is her work on an end-of-life case, reminiscent of Terry Schiavo's, in 2008.

O'Donnell, the new Republican Senate candidate from Delaware, cites her pro bono public relations work on the case as the reason she was in dire financial straits during her Senate campaign against Joe Biden that year. Her straits were so dire, in fact, she sold her home...

There’s a huge difference between directing your own resources and energy toward helping someone (personal sacrifice) and trying to force other people to help others while maintaining your own elitist lifestyle.

Comments following that story on TPM ranged from snarky to downright offensive. Amazing some people are so blinded by their hatred.

“Sorry, there’s just not enough money to pay for that”.

When it comes to local, state, and federal governments' budgets, I agree with you 100%. When it comes to personal finances, that is up to the individual to decide.

>>>So, it’s a microcosm of the national budget situation<<<

Well, that part is right - but you seem to assume that personal sacrifice for a worthy cause is undignified or wrong...

Are you suggesting that the Dems way is the way to go? Sit back and throw 'Other People's Money" at the problem while skimming off some for your 'buddy-list'?

Which is more worthy -

“I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

I think Christine stands solidly for what she knows is the right thing to do...

Do you?

Wow, did you read some of those comments on the TPM page?

They truly are the party of death. The thought of starving a person to death because they've become inconvenient doesn't seem to faze them in the least.

>>>They truly are the party of death<<<

52,000,000 sucked from their mother’s womb and discarded must not be enough to satisfy their macabre lust for death.

The ‘imperfects’ in their view should suffer the same fate...

Is there any reason we should feel compelled to support their ethics with OUR HEALTHCARE?

Nuff said... Any reasoning person would understand...

She was sued for unpaid debt in 1994. Lauren Richardson didn't go into the coma until 2006.

The feeding tube court decision for Lauren Richardson was late January 2008. The mortgage holder filed the lawsuit against her on March 5, 2008.

Burned by the timeline, caught lying again.

Why does she seem to automatically knee-jerk into dishonesty when pushed? She could have just said something like:

"I'm not from wealth and, since I'm self-employed with non-profit clients who were hit by the early part of the recession [optional--add "after the Democrats took Congress"], I got behind on my mortgage. I think the important point to note, though, is that I did the right thing and found a buyer for the property before the sheriff's sale went through, at a third higher price than I paid, getting the lender their money and allowing me to readjust my life and finances."
Of course, that raises questions as to why she didn't pay back other loans, or rent that she owed her campaign, etc.

>sigh<

Right now, the country needs people who can be hard-@$$ed about it and say, “Sorry, there’s just not enough money to pay for that”.

Hey troll, maybe you missed it when you joined four days ago, but Free Republic is a CONSERVATIVE, PRO-LIFE FORUM.

In the case of Lauren Richardson, paying for her care was NEVER a factor.

People like YOU who say things like, "Sorry, there’s just not enough money to pay for that," are EXACTLY the kind of people that Zero is looking for to put on his death panels, perhaps you should apply.

As Conservatives we each have a very low tollerance for government spending on things it should not be involved in.  I do believe there are times when we should be more forgiving of it.  This is one of a very few instances that I would sign on to.

Look, we don't want the government soaking the public, but do we really want to sign on to ending the lives of every person who is on life support that isn't presently responding?  Some of them recover, and this is not what is breaking the bank anyway.  Lets get real here.

Nobody but nobody bats an eyelash over providing free health care to foreign nationals that shouldn't be here.  Twenty to thirty-five million of them, and the only thing Lefists can say about this is, "Hey, let more of them in to sap us dry."  Try sending a few of them home and watch the commotion.  Tens of billions, no problem...

Get a few hundred people who have had an unfortunate accident, and all of a sudden it's, quick, pull the plug, no more veggies for you you worthless pile of flesh.

Perhaps the stories are out there and I just haven't heard of them, but I don't hear stories of people waking up saying, "Damit, I told you to kill me!  Why didn't you listen?"

Instead we see family reunions, lots of tears, and enough happiness to fill a football stadium.  The additional $1.25 in taxes it costs my family each year isn't going to break our budget.

Another point is that if rules were relaxed so that volunteers could help care for the needy in hospitals - trained of course - to take care of more mundane tasks, this would reduce costs. There is so much freaking legal redtape about everything that it makes costs skyrocket. I bet all kind of volunteers woulds be thrilled to help care for the sick and helpless. I bet groups would even form just for the purpose.

I corrected that person’s misinformation in the comments.

O’Donnell did an interview with Faith2Acton on 2.12.2008 about Lauren Richardson, which is before the March 2008 mortgage lawsuit.

She got hit with a mortgage lawsuit only one month after falling into arrears?? Who's her banker, Simon Legree?

Try to focus here TROLLey, the problem IS NOT O'Donnell's mortgage, they problem is YOUR support for death panels and rationing.

I provided evidence that O’Donnell was involved in the Richardson case before she was sued. The comment on TPM claimed that when she was sued in March she was not yet involved in the case, which is incorrect.

That’s what I want to know: why is the US Government pumping money into Planned Parenthood for abortions, but has no money to keep feeding tubes in the medically fragile?

Why must the medically fragile not only forfeit their lives, but made to do it in the most cruel manner possible?

Why don’t we send you out with a gun, and just shoot them in their heads, Kathleen? It would save those precious medical resources that are wasted while waiting for them to die, and their quick dispatch would save them from a lot of suffering. Oh, The American Public not ready for that? Come on, Kathleen, you can convince them!

Where did you come up with the fact that she paid her mortgage in February and was therefore only one month behind in March? I provided evidence that she was involved in the case in Februrary to dispute the claim that she was sued before becoming involved in the case. I did not provide evidence that she was current on her mortgage in February. You’re assuming facts not in evidence.

One need only remember what they said about Trig Palin.

In fact, my kids (8 and 6 at the time) overheard some of their talk and were quite disturbed by the sentiment. They still ask about Trig from time to time, and the best thing that could come out of it would be for them to be life long, pro-life Conservatives.

As a bit of a comparison between their attitudes and Christine’s...

Meeting our adopted special needs daughter at one of the rallies, Christine took time to really talk to her and to tell her that she understood how happy she must be to finally have a ‘Forever Family’. Not as a campaigning politician, but as a caring human - says a lot in my book...

Oh, daughter went to the polls with us - we wanted her to know the process and procedures - She was VERY upset that she wasn’t old enough to be able to actually vote for her. She explained that she knew what was in Christine’s heart and wanted to participate in the voting.

Though our daughter is 14 going on 7, sometimes her insight on people is astounding...

Lauren Richardson gave birth (while in a coma) to her daughter in February 2007. Sometime after that Lauren’s mother filed suit to end Lauren’s life.

According to court documents, O’Donnell became delinquent on her mortgage in October 2007.

The court issued a decision in Lauren’s case in January 2008.

We know O’Donnell was involved in Lauren’s case in February 2008. We don’t yet know when she first became involved.

O’Donnell’s mortgage company sued her on March 5, 2008.
