Chris Coons: Volunteer for Liberation Theology (He's just what Delaware needs in Washington)
American Spectator ^ | September 20, 2010 | Jeffrey Lord

Posted on 09/20/2010 5:07:16 AM PDT by IbJensen

Here we go again.

Chris Coons, the freshly minted Democrat selected as Tea Party favorite and Republican nominee Christine O'Donnell's opponent in the Delaware U.S. Senate race traveled to Africa in the 1980s -- emerging as a committed leftist after volunteering for an organization supporting Black Liberation Theology.

The controversial religious philosophy espoused by radical left-wing activist James Cone and President Obama's one-time spiritual mentor the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Black Liberation Theology is an off-shoot of liberation theology, a Marxist-driven interpretation of Christianity.

And the liberal media -- alarmed at O'Donnell's success and busily running all manner off stories designed to portray her as a right-wing crazy -- has suddenly gone missing on Coons. Silent on a stunning revelation that could prove uniquely fatal to Chris Coons' Senate candidacy in the year of Tea Party rebellion against the Obama Administration's agenda of wealth redistribution.

The Washington Post curiously says of Coons in their Coons profile only that he "spent time in South Africa and Kenya doing relief work." The New York Times never mentions Coons' work in Africa, choosing instead to describe him as an attorney and mentioning only his work with the homeless, the Investor Responsibility Center, and the "I Have a Dream" Foundation. Plus his educational background, a B.A. from Amherst, a law degree from Yale and a Master's in Ethics from Yale Divinity School.

Delaware voters: make up your minds. Do you want to be 'used' by the far left to complete the job of destroying America?

Biden was bad enough, earning Delaware a black eye in the Senate, but this commie tops the list!

Beware of anyone bearing an "Ethics Doctorate" - the classic worthless degree of the professional leftist student.

Strange last name for a liberation theologist - perhaps some white guilt there?

So Chris Coons dabbled in black liberation theology?
Sounds like obama lite

Coons is very much a part of the far left extremist fringe.

I bet he is sounding more conservative before the election.

Proves he is a liar out to fool people to get elected.

He is just another Obama.

Liberation theology = Marxism in a thin religous wrapper.

The general electorate does not consider volunteer work in Africa to be a damning red flag. Plenty of local churches probably sponsor volunteer missions to Africa - and one in five voters in Delaware is black.

His trip was sponsored by the Nelson Mandela-approved South African Council of Churches.

While knowledgeable conservatives realize that Mandela was a Communist terrorist and that the SACC was a Communist front organization, the average American sees Mandela much as the average American sees MLK: as a civil rights hero.

Coons stands convicted of Marxism by his own words, by his voting record as a county councilman and by his decisions as county executive.

He has also been described as "my pet" by one of the most hated individuals in Congress.

If Coons can be defeated, it will be because he is definitively linked to the national Democrats as Reid's pet and an Obama flunky as well as a tax-and-spend crony Democrat who did a terrible job for New Castle.

Yes, the Press wants to look at statements and actions by Christine O’Donnell 20 years ago. Let’s start being a little consistent and do it to Chris Coons there media. I won’t be holding my breath...

Wpend more time reminding the voters of things they already know and less time educating them with new facts.

to the average voter “marxist” and “black liberation theology” is kook talk.

Focus on his elected life, his deficit spending and tax raising as County Exec, his complicity with the corruption of the previos County Exec (Coons was county council president before he was elected exec). All of these things the voters “know” and just need to be reminded of.

“Strange last name for a liberation theologist - perhaps some white guilt there?”

I will never understand white guilt. I don’t think it exists. What exists is a superiority attitude that must be masked using another term. Liberals being progressives. Marxist hiding their true intent.

Christine needs to run a “Are you a good witch or a bad witch” ad. She should say the only remenant from 11 years ago is a broom, and it never flew. She should then put up a side by side comparison of beliefs. Then she should say, “Who’s the GOOD witch here. She should then say she gonna take her defective broom and work with Delaware Patriots to clean up the mess in Washington.

Very good advice. Stick to issues, avoid the slime market is how McDonald won in VA.

Say, can she wrinkle her nose and make all LIBs disappear?

Anybody know if she could run an ad with Christine O’Donnell talking with Elizabeth Montgomery? Or have Mellisa Hart do an ad.

Probably best to drive the nail home on Chris “Tax Hike” Coons.

As I see it, COD needs to sell herself to De voters by giving them a reason to vote for her. Let others go after Coons. Drop the Witch stuff, it has been wrung dry already and the opposition will just roll out more crap to distract and derail her campaign. COD has the opportunity to show she is a substantial candidate, not a fluke or flake, and explain to voters why she wants the senate office and what she will do with it once she is elected. Winning this particular race hangs more on COD than on the GOP. With the public attention and money garnered by the fortuitous bashing from Rove, O'Donnell has a good chance of winning the De senate seat. IMO, she just needs to stick to the high road and leave the Coons stuff to others.
