Karl Rove: O'Donnell must explain her witchcraft comments
CNN ^ | 09/19/2010 | Alexander Mooney

Karl Rove – the top GOP strategist who declared last week that Christine O’Donnell’s surprise victory does “little good” for the party – is now calling on the surprise Senate nominee to explain her comments about witchcraft.

"In southern Delaware where there are a lot of churchgoing people, they're going to want to know what that is all about,” the former aide to President George W. Bush told "Fox News Sunday."

“My view is she can’t simply ignore it,” he said. “She’s got to deal with it and explain it and put it in its most sympathetic light and move on.”

O’Donnell uttered the comments in question during a 1999 appearance on the now-canceled show “Politically Incorrect,” saying then, “I dabbled into witchcraft – I never joined a coven. But I did, I did. ... I dabbled into witchcraft.”

The 11-year-old interview was dug up Friday by liberal comedian Bill Maher – the former host of Politically Incorrect. During the 1999 appearance, O’Donnell also described one of her first dates – with a witch “on a satanic altar.”

A spokesman for the O’Donnell campaign did not respond to CNN’s request for comment.

“She can’t simply say, ‘Oh these are unfactual, and not true,' and just ignore them,” Rove also said. “I don’t think the people of Delaware have or are accepting that as a reasonable explanation.

Citing exhaustion and scheduling conflicts, O’Donnell canceled her plans over the weekend to appear on both "Fox News Sunday" and CBS’ "Face the Nation" – a move Rove called a “smart decision.”

“She shouldn’t have accepted in the first place,” he said. “It’s Delaware voters, not conservatives across the country who will determine the outcome of this election … and there is, as I say, resistance.”

Saint Paul took great joy in watching Christians being stoned to death, then later went on to spread Christianity to the world. Christine’s dabbling in witchcraft as a teenager pales in comparison. Considering what she is now, a Christian conservative, I find her story of redemption inspiring.

Rove probably took his kids to see Harry Potter at the time.

Rove clearly has some kind of personal problem here. What ever it is he ought to have the common decency to keep it to himself.

I gather this "dating a witch" thing happened in...high school? Sheesh.

That is hilarious... meanwhile, my take on this is that a lot of people when they are young “dabble” with a lot of bad stuff - drugs, alcohol, sexual liaisons, and even pagan doings, including witchcraft. Meanwhile, the people who are trying to mock her now for her comments probably think nothing of going to a psychic, playing with Tarot cards, or a host of other abominable activities that all fall under the rubric of witchcraft.

I don’t know what to say about this woman or her potential for office but I know this much. I like that she might be a little too honest. I’m sick of all these people who script everything they say as if they are perfect when they fall far from the mark. And, frankly, her financial issues are a little more worrisome.

Meanwhile, I find it interesting that a comment from someone about something like this is given such enormous scrutiny yet Obama got elected while being in a damnable church for 20 plus years - he could’ve been a Voodoo master, or the dang head of a witches’ coven and still would have been elected.

Why is it “dumbass” to tell a redemption story? Obviously, all redemption stories must have something that needs redeeming, in Christine’s case it was dabbling with witchcraft, in other cases its promiscuity, alcoholism, drug addiction, liberalism, etc. It wasn’t dumbass at all it was just being honest about her past.

Well, liberals are never gonna vote for her so that isn’t who she needs to worry about. And if it was just a one-time thing, probably not that big a deal, but anything satanic freaks me out personally.

I go to church every Sunday, live in Sussex county, and I remember a time I was “into” vampires.

Hell....it was around high school. Some girlfriends and I would sit and talk about it....sometimes watch vampire movies. “Salem’s Lot” by Steve King was one of our faves.

I mean....sheesh. And Karl Rove stands up and sanctimoniously demands an explanation like this is worth dipsquat.

And he is strangley silent on that Chris Coons “I AM A BEARDED MARXIST” thing...you think Rove could have demanded an explanation on this? No wait! That’s the Dem party...Rove doesn’t want to hurt them.

From Alinsky’s Rules For Radicals

Rule 5: Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. It’s hard to counterattack ridicule, and it infuriates the opposition, which then reacts to your advantage.
