Rep. Meeks helped 'jihad' flier--Queens Democrat: Ease JFK grill of Osama 'ally'
NY Post ^ | September 19, 2010 | Isabel Vincent & Melissa Klein

US Rep. Gregory Meeks scolded immigration officials for questioning a Muslim scholar whose nonprofits have been linked to financing terrorism.

The Queens Democrat contacted federal agencies -- finally appealing to then-Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff -- asking why Anwar Hajjaj faced "unwarranted scrutiny" when he returned to the United States from trips abroad through JFK Airport.

Meeks described Hajjaj as a "highly regarded" professor of Islamic studies who leads Friday Muslim prayers at the Capitol.

Meeks said Hajjaj was "a pioneer in distance-based learning of Islam" through the American Open University in Virginia, according to a copy of the Sept. 30, 2006, letter to Chertoff, which was obtained by The Post under a Freedom of Information Act request.

~snip~

Hajjaj, 65, told The Post that he was routinely harassed and sometimes missed flights when he traveled to and from Saudi Arabia for the pilgrimage to Mecca.

"It was an awful experience under the Bush administration," he said. "Now under Obama, I have no complaints."

He said he asked Meeks to write a letter on his behalf. He said he knew the Democratic lawmaker through Jameel Aalim-Johnson, Meeks' chief of staff from 2006 to early 2008.

Doesn't seem unwarranted when Anwar Hajjaj was connected to groups financing terrorism and Meeks should have known that.

I misread “Highly regarded” as having a “t” instead of a “g” and spent a few minutes pondering that.

So, this is the new lexicon for terrorist indoctrination and incitement online?

NY POST 7/11/10: Rep. Gregory Meeks is getting heat over a loan he took from a local businessman, Edul Ahmad-- but that may be the least of his debt problems. In 2007, Meeks borrowed $40,000 from Edul Ahmad, whose Queens empire includes a real-estate agency, an import firm, a mortgage brokerage and a banquet hall.

Meeks failed to report the personal loan -- and a $15,000 loan from the Congressional Federal Credit Union -- on his annual congressional financial-disclosure reports. He only came clean on the 2009 report, which was filed on June 15. Three days later, he submitted amendments saying he took out the interest-only $40,000 loan in 2007 and had paid it back. City records show that Meeks took out a $59,650 third mortgage on his home on June 18, the same day he reported repaying the debt to Ahmad.

Meeks and his mortgaged home.

Meeks, who earns $174,000 tax dollars a year, is required to pay $1,451.48 quarterly on that 10-year loan. The congressman did not respond to requests for comment. Meeks is under federal investigation after the Post revealed questionable spending practices at a tax-exempt charity he started with NY state Sen. Malcolm Smith.

Thanks for your post.

The New York Post and the National Legal & Policy Center have been all over Meeks for his alleged corruption, he may be joining some of his CBC cohorts in being investigated by the Ethics Committee.

Rep. Gregory Meeks, D-NY, makes a statement before departing for Switzerland.

"This federal investigation of me and Malcolm is racism---pure and simple.
I am totally innocent. As a compassionate and tolerant Democrat, I was just
helping out a distinguished foreign dignitary."

"See, I got this email from Nigerian Gen Kachinga Cheatchusuckah.
The General had a problem."

" Now, as soon as Gen Cheatchusuckah transfers Idi Amin's
secret Ugandan gold reserves from a Swiss bank vault to a
refrigerated truck I leased............."

Sen Malcolm Smith tells his limo driver: "I don't give a damn where you park it. "

Dwarfing every house in the neighborhood, the 6,000-square-foot manse is guarded by security cameras and tucked nearly out of view at the end of a long driveway.

And it wasn’t cheap.

Queens Rep. Gregory Meeks and his wife, Simone-Marie, paid $830,000 in 2006 for the then-new house, which is now at the center of ethical and legal questions facing the congressman.

One loan Meeks took out from a Queens businessman to help pay for the house recently has drawn FBI scrutiny.

Guyanese businessman Edul "Ed" Ahmad

Loan By Guyanese To Congressman Questioned
CaribWorldNews, NEW YORK, NY, Thurs. June 24, 2010
thebestcaribbeansite.com/

A loan by a Guyanese-born real estate entrepreneur to a U.S. congressman has come under scrutiny.

New York Daily News reports indicates that Congressman Gregory Meeks, (D-Queens), got a `personal loan` of $50,000 to $100,000 from Queens-based, Guyanese businessman Ed Ahmad.

Under House rules, members of Congress must obtain special permission from the Ethics Commission for personal loans and provide documentation setting forth the terms. Meeks admitted to the News that in the past three years he has obtained two loans totaling $55,000 that he did not reveal on the financial disclosure forms he`s required to file with the U.S. House clerk. He, however, declined to reveal the purpose of the loans.

Meeks also added that he has filed amended financial disclosure statements that reflect the existence of the two loans. The amended filing form showed that sometime last year, Meeks got a `personal loan` of $50,000 to $100,000 from Ahmad.

Ahmad is a big political donor, donating more than $12,000 to presidential and congressional campaigns over the last 15 years, including $1,000 to Meeks and more than $4,000 to Queens Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, election records show.

He`s also given more than $60,000 to mostly Democratic campaigns and political action committees statewide in the last 15 years, including several donations to Brooklyn state Sen. John Sampson and Gov. Paterson.

Meeks told the newspaper he could not find documents to back up the loan. He also did not respond to a request for copies of cancelled checks.

A federal grand jury has slapped Queens Rep. Gregory Meeks with a subpoena demanding records about his tax-exempt charities and what happened to their money — including one that stiffed Hurricane Katrina victims.

The subpoena from a Manhattan grand jury signals an expanding corruption probe of Meeks and two fellow Queens Democrats, state Senate President Malcolm Smith and the Rev. Floyd Flake, who also were involved in separate subpoenas issued earlier this month.

Report: Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated the U.S. government

WASHINGTON — The Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated the U.S. government as part of the movement's drive to promote holy war against the West, a report said. So far, the government was said to have done nothing to stop the Brotherhood infiltration. The report by the Center for Security Policy cited the success of one Brotherhood operative in gaining access to the White House under both Democratic and Republican administrations.

"Relying on Brotherhood operatives for 'outreach to the Muslim community,' let alone appointing them to influential government jobs, is a formula for disaster," the report said. "It gives prominence and legitimacy to enemy agents engaged in covert and not-so-covert acts of sedition. It facilitates their penetration and influence over the intelligence, law enforcement and national and homeland security agencies responsible for discerning and defeating such threats." The Obama WH announced the 'Coordinating Council of Muslim Organizations associated with the Muslim Brotherhood,' will bring 25-30 Muslim leaders of 20 national Muslim groups August 31 to attend a special workshop presented by the White House and US Government agencies, including Agriculture, Education, Homeland Security, HHS, etc., to provide the groups tax funding, government assistance and resources.”

"The August 31 workshop will provide special access for the Muslim Brotherhood organizations. We pledge to provide direct access and cut through red tape. "

"The US Government and the Muslim groups will hold an Iftar dinner breaking the fast of Ramadan after the workshop. "
