With a new round of layoffs expected this fall, CBS News is being trimmed to the bone. Rebecca Dana on the dramatic drop in ratings, strange BlackBerry blackouts, and eager suitors for anchor Katie Couric.
On Monday, Katie Couric begins her fifth, and quite possibly final, year of hard labor as anchor of the CBS Evening News.
However she chooses to mark the occasion, it will no doubt be more subdued than the tears, dancing, and $10 million promotional campaign that attended her debut on Sept. 5, 2006.

she’s been in there for 4 full years? Seems like 2 years max. Where does the time go?
Three months. That’s all I would have given her.
It was obvious after the second week where this was headed.
Couric basically destroyed CBS evening news. I tried watching it to see what was going on that first week. In fact, I recorded it to DVD.
It was comical to see her break into the solid news reports to deliver a touchy-feely segment. It would be a profile on some leftist nonsense or another. Women who don’t really care for watching the news, were supposed to find this appealing. Men couldn’t watch it, and women who didn’t like watching news weren’t going to tune in to watch one segment either.
Nice work Katie. Couldn’t have done better if I had spent the same amount of time trying to discredit CBS News.

I didn’t watch See-BS News before Katie, I’m not watching it with Katie, and I won’t watch it after Katie.
Good riddance to Katie Courva.

Maybe they could reorganize and try reporting the news. I hear the market is wide open.
So you can be a miserable failure by any objective measure and have a line of “eager suitors” begging you to come fail for them?

I’m getting tired of waiting for Katie’s time to go around.
She’s like the Black Plague...every where the cheer leader goes, people get cut.
Perhaps her last day she’ll reminisce and show the high point of her time on TV.
