Ken Mehlman, Bush Campaign Manager, Comes Out as Gay

Former Republican National Committee chairman and Bush-Cheney campaign manager Ken Mehlman has announced publicly that he is gay, CBS News chief political consultant and politics editor for The Atlantic Marc Ambinder reports.

"It's taken me 43 years to get comfortable with this part of my life," Mehlman said. "Everybody has their own path to travel, their own journey, and for me, over the past few months, I've told my family, friends, former colleagues, and current colleagues, and they've been wonderful and supportive. The process has been something that's made me a happier and better person. It's something I wish I had done years ago, but I didn't."

Mehlman was RNC chairman from 2005 to 2007 after serving as Bush-Cheney campaign manager in 2004. He also served as White House political director during President Bush's first term.

And how is this newsworthy?

Mehlman currently holds no elected or appointed position.

There is something wrong when it takes 43 years to get comfortable with who you are

Especially when that something is a man and his sex drive, how does a man live most of his life indecisive about, or indifferent to his sexual passion?

That made me laugh harder than I have laughed in a long time. Thank you for that.

You're welcome! But that's not to disparage real catchers such as Yogi Berra, Johnny Bench, Mike Piazza or Greg Olson!

“no wonder the GOP did so terrible in 2008, the Chairman was too preoccupied. Did he have some of his pardners on staff??”

Mr. Mehlman was not chairman of the RNC in 2008. The people in charge of the RNC from 2007 to 2009 were two great “heterosexuals” in the GOP, Senator Mel Martinez and Mr. Mike Duncan.

People can say what they want about this announcement from Mr. Mehlman, I only know the following about his politics, his political experience and his abilities.

As the head of the Bush 2004 re-election campaign, his candidate won when EVERYTHING in the public arena said the nation was so opposed to Bush over Iraq that Bush couldn’t win.

And, during that campaign, Mr. Mehlman created the first-ever nationwide, fully integrated, fully web-site and database integrated national and nation wide integrated get out the vote campaign.

I know, because I personally volunteered to work on it during the campaign and all the up to the final hours. As such a volunteer, you could access lists of GOP-registered and “Independent” registered voters, in your state or in other states, including their phone numbers; select them one by one from the list, note if you contacted them or not and note how you think they responded; all with a “pitch” that identified why your were calling (for the re-elect Bush campaign); and all with your actions continually updating the database everyone was working from.

It became a nearly full time operation for many volunteers in the final few days, and for many of us right up to when the polls closed.

Recruitment, sign-up and coordination was largely performed through Internet based promotion and Email.

How many Americans like me got involved? I was told that during the course of the entire 2004 campaign, about 1.5 million “grass roots” GOPers, like me, got involved.

And Bush won.

No doubt that was what led to Mr. Mehlman’s selection for RNC Chairman’s spot in 2005.

Like I said at the start of my note, Mehlman was followed by the Martinez/Duncan duo, who ran the oh-so-unsuccessful response to the Dims in 2008.

Some years ago, I attended a massive fund raiser in Orlando for Bush I's reelection. Four things set my teeth on edge:

(1) Armand Hammer -- yes, corrupt, thuggish Armand Hammer -- posthumously revealed as a Soviet agent -- was given an award in the name of the RNC;

(2) a surprisingly large number of crooked businessmen had bought their way in;

(3) as I and an off duty public corruption investigator there both recognized, due to Secret Service screening, the Bush people obviously knew but had no sense of concern over who they had let into association with the President of the United States -- which meant the Bush himself had approved of slumming for campaign cash; and

(4), the program included a speech by Ken Mehlman that was so gushingly laudatory of George Bush that I immediately suspected Mehlman was gay and unhappily realized that Bush was shallow enough to like servile, over the top flattery from underlings.

Mehlman said he wanted to come out publicly because “he wants to become an advocate for gay marriage.” How long before this idiot says he wants to ‘adopt’ a young boy? Why are these freaks always so predictable?

“There is something wrong when it takes 43 years to get comfortable with who you are.”

So for 30 odd years when Kenny masturbated he was fantasizing about trees or tires? Give me a break. This slimebag knew what turned him on decades ago but had the common sense to know it was perverted. Now he’s just lying through his teeth.

I believe homosexuals decided to infiltrate the Republican Party after values voters and conservative Christians got involved in politics. They could either get “caught” and open the party up to charges of hypocrisy, or come out like Ken and say “See, I’m a Republican, too!”

Goes along with my pet conspiracy theory that the Bushes are really Dem moles sent to destroy the Republican Party from within.

“...a man who finds erotic fascination with the hairy fecal elimination canals of other men...”

Hilarious way to phrase it. Created a visual effect, though...wish it didn’t!

No surprise here. Bush and his family are social liberals.

Sickening. The GOP needs to be imploded and rebuilt from the ground up. Enough is enough.

No doubt that was what led to Mr. Mehlman’s selection for RNC Chairman’s spot in 2005.

And many of us protested strongly at the time for this very reason. The result wasn't felt in 2008--the damage was already done in 2006 when we lost Congress under this bozo's watch.

Why on earth would a homosexual be put in charge of running RNC? The stupidity of the Stupid Party knows no bounds.

“The result wasn’t felt in 2008—the damage was already done in 2006 when we lost Congress under this bozo’s watch.”

THAT result, was primarily due to the House and Senate Congressional Campaign committees and the leaders of those committees (which is why people like Jim Demint are not leaving it to them this time); not the RNC, as THEY, the Congressional committees have the lion’s share of their “national” campaign message in the election years between Presidential elections (when there is no “national convention” and no “platform” of the national convention).

THEY lost the House and Senate NOT because of the RNC, but because of how they had governed when they had a majority, operating as big-spending, ear-mark-loading RINOS, leaving little, other than “national security” to distinguish them from the big spending corrupt Dims.
