Bedbugs found in basement of Empire State Building

NEW YORK (AP) -- It survived the Depression, a bomber crash and King Kong's climb, but can the Empire State Building withstand a bedbug infestation? Officials say exterminators had to clean out an employee changing room in the tower's basement after bedbugs were found there last week.

The officials tell The New York Daily News that an employee had the bedbugs on his clothes and brought them into the building, but that the problem is now under control.

Tourists visiting the skyscraper say they are disgusted by the bloodsucking pests.

Must be a haven for illegal aliens from Mexico.

Other infestations (of this “transplanted” but once-scarce) pest have been traced to illegal immigrant housing conditions, no sanitation, and recent moves from infected areas.

Two choices. Either enforce existing immigration laws or legalize DDT.

When my Grandfather came to the US in the 20’s he lived for a while in a NYC YMCA. Each man had thin mattress rolled over a metal bed frame. Once a week the YMCA manager would go over the bed frame with a blow torch to kill off bedbugs and such.

Do both.

Agree with previous posters that this is due to illegals. We also hear of diseases that had been controlled into being only historical notes, making a “surprising” comeback into The United States. Hmm, and all the lame stream press butt kissers act like they have no idea why old time diseases are now being found in our country.

Only a hard fence system, tough laws that are enforced, and a future President who is American to his or her core, will ever fix the illegal invasion we are having.

One of my main problems with GW Bush was that after the islamic attacks of 9-11, Bush did not immediatley begin the process of sealing our borders. If he were 100 percent serious in his job to protect Americans he would have sealed those borders. Instead it was business as usual to let in cheap labor. It’s the biggest beef I have with his presidency. Also hate that he didn’t go after drilling everywhere and anywhere, enviroweenies be damned. He had the chance to do big stuff and instead he wanted to reach across the isle and make friends with the devil.

Seems if you can stay in a hotel or go to a theater; you can take a freaking bath! If they are in these places; including the Empire State building (can the theater there be safe?); then there must be a lot of people walking around with creepy crawlies moving all over them. They must ‘know it’; so what is the deal. They just want to share? Ge rid of these things; or stay home; wherever it is.

Bedbugs are a problem that won’t be solved anytime soon unfortunately. The article notes that NYC fielded 11,000 complaints about bedbugs last year.

How bad will it have to get before the EPA gives second thoughts to DDT?

One of my main problems with GW Bush was that after the islamic attacks of 9-11, Bush did not immediately begin the process of sealing our borders.

This was the main reason for the GOP losing congress in the '06 midterms. The state run media will tell you it was spending ... maybe to a small extent. or the economy.... unemployment was around 5% then. Nope this was the time W came out for "comprehensive immigration reform" (his term not Hussain's). Even in a relatively good economy, people were getting a sense that in a post 9-11 world open borders was not a smart strategy.

Breaks my heart to see the illegals streaming across our border. That rancher that was murdered by one of the illegals is often on my mind. My monthly NRA magazine did a lengthy article on that man recently. He was a solid all American guy, on his own land, being an American and some scumbag killed him. I’d not have the same restraint he did as he watched tens of thousands stream through his ranch over the years. He even gave some of them water at times, he was such a good man. And what did he get? An early grave.

It will be at least until 2013 before anything will be done. Only a new president with strong beliefs in our country will have the guts to do what needs to be done. Anyone less than a bold unapologetic patriot will not be acceptable.

I pray that God sees us through this horrible time and has mercy on our sinful nation, and that He places a Christian at the head of the government next time around. We will not survive another term with liberals at the helm.

Leprosy (aka Hansen’s Disease), TB, dengue fever, measles, mumps, whooping cough (aka pertussis), malaria, valley fever, and others are all making a come back in America.

“How bad will it have to get before the EPA gives second thoughts to DDT?”

Bedbugs have long been resistant to DDT, which in fact increases budbug activity:

I have seen several ads on TV for Pertusis. Yeah, they don’t want to call it whooping cough.
