My uncle just passed away a few weeks ago at the age of 60 from cancer of the unknown primary. He paid into Social Security for 40+ years. He never married and didn’t have any children. He never drew disability payments or any kind of Social Security benefit. He worked until the day he died.

The government kept every penny of what he paid into Social Security. We couldn’t even get the paltry $255 death benefit to help pay for the grave marker.

My Mom died the day of her first check.

Dad had to return it.

In Britain, Social Security is known as 'National Insurance', this name perhaps more accurately describes the intended purpose of social security deductions. Sorry about your Uncle by the way.

Take comfort in the fact that your uncle is paying for someone who is a druggy, alcoholic, mentally unstable, or just downright lazy to draw SSI-SSP (federal welfare) for the rest of their life.

I hope you realize that is satire and I am so sorry about the loss of your uncle.
