In many cases the classification brings social security benefits to the families.

I think you will find that it is only the case if the parents do not earn above a certain income level which in turn shows some parents due abuse the system as well as their children with unnecessary medication.

That’s ok. I took it from someone else as well!

The other name for “ADHD” is “young boy.”

Often, boys get drugged for being boys.

"majority of kids"

Think about it. Kids are expected to sit quietly for about eight hours a day in a desk. They can't move about freely (at least I couldn't in my school days many years ago) and have to watch someone squawking at them while they listen attentively. Can't be done. Especially with boys. I daydreamed my way through eight years of grade school and four years of high school. And these were at Catholic schools where the nuns were highly hostile to inattentive students. Most boys are by nature indisposed to pay attention for more than one or two hours a day. ADHD is a crock.

“Parents” are lazy. They refuse to let children be children while also rearing them to behave and mature. So, instead, they put their kids on drugs to turn them into marshmallows.

My momma used to feed us chocolate gravy on bread, then unleash us on the schools.

We hit the school bus on a sugar high!

I changed careers a few years ago and picked up a Teachers certificate.

The program I went through to do this was a graduate certificate granting program in secondary education.

Most of the classes were a joke and some of the instructors were terrible. One in particular was horrendous and ticked me off.... she was a big proponent of Ritalin so I decided to do one of my required papers on Ritalin.

Took me about 10 minutes to find some research conducted by Brookhaven National Laboratories on the effect of Ritalin on the brain. Using MRIs in real time they tracked what Ritalin was actually doing. It turns out that is actually a protease uptake inhibitor, similar to cocaine, but more effective at blocking protease.

So the education establishment had been recommending Ritalin for over 30 years at that point and they really didn’t know what it did! (they thought it was a stimulant).

How did it ever get approved by the FDA?

And no, I’m not teaching these days... other than troops in the sandbox. The local public schools are way to politicized - nepotism is running rampant - and it’s just not worth it.

This is what happens when you get ‘teachers’ unqualified to teach making medical diagnosies and pushing mind controlling drugs on our kids to make their jobs easier.

“Instead of younger children being overdiagnosed, Elder says, it's possible that older children are underdiagnosed, possibly because they seem more mature than their classmates.” from the USA today I read yesterday.

A made up disease with a made up diagnosis that seems to almost always fall upon boys and the yongest in a class. All an ADHD diagnosis means is “the school would prefer if you drug your child so they are less active.”

What will the school psychologist have to do, if he/she isn’t going to orchestrate drugging the students?

Ritalin and other pharmaceutical drugs are promoted in large part by advocacy groups such as CHADD. http://www.chadd.org/ Mission statement:

CHADD - A Non-Profit Organization
Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD), is a national non-profit, tax-exempt (Section 501 (c) (3) ) organization providing education, advocacy and support for individuals with AD/HD. In addition to our informative Web site, CHADD also publishes a variety of printed materials to keep members and professionals current on research advances, medications and treatments affecting individuals with AD/HD. These materials include Attention! magazine, the CHADD Information and Resource Guide to AD/HD, News From CHADD, a free electronically mailed current events newsletter, as well as other publications of specific interest to educators, professionals and parents.
CHADD does not endorse, recommend, or make representations with respect to the research, services, medication, treatments or products on the Web site.
The information on the CHADD Web site is provided with the understanding that the organization is not engaged in rendering medical or legal advice or recommendations. You should not rely on any information on the Web site to replace consultations with qualified health care or legal professionals to meet your individual needs. References to any treatment or therapy option, or to any program, service or treatment do not constitute an official endorsement by CHADD. Parents and professionals are encouraged to fully investigate treatment options and providers that may be most appropriate for a specific individual.
Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD) was founded in 1987 in response to the frustration and sense of isolation experienced by parents and their children with AD/HD. At that time, one could turn very few places for support or information. Many people seriously misunderstood AD/HD. Many clinicians and educators knew little about the disability, and individuals with AD/HD were often mistakenly labeled “a behavior problem,” “unmotivated,” or “not intelligent enough.”
Individuals and families dealing with AD/HD turn to CHADD, the national organization representing individuals with AD/HD, for education, advocacy and support. AD/HD is medically and legally recognized as a treatable yet potentially serious disorder, affecting up to three to five percent of all children, and approximately two to four percent of adults.
Today, children with AD/HD are eligible for special education services or accommodations within the regular classroom when needed, and adults with AD/HD may be eligible for accommodations in the workplace under the Americans with Disabilities Act. CHADD is a success story, inspired by the desire of countless parents to see their children with AD/HD succeed. From one parent support group in Florida, the organization grew dramatically to become the leading non-profit national organization for children and adults with AD/HD.
The organization has a small national staff, which manages the day-to-day responsibilities, while its Board of Directors sets policy and oversees the organization’s well being. The organization is composed of dedicated volunteers from around the country who play an integral part in the association’s success by providing support, education and encouragement to parents, educators and professionals on a grassroots level through CHADD chapters. Along with its growth in membership and reputation, CHADD has retained the passion and commitment of its founders.

There was a book written in the 1990s that connects Swiss Pharmaceutical companies who fund CHADD. Tragically, desperate parents easily accept the CHADD message, enslaving their children to ENDLESS drug therapy. The collusion from manufacturer to your friendly school counselor is highly organized, well funded and veiled in secrecy.

I know 2 families right now that are collecting based on this scam.

How does one "collect" based on this diagnosis?

Very very seldom is there any need for medication, certainly not the way they are dumping drugs down kids throats these days.

Agreed. My four oldest we fine and I figured every use of meds was wrong.

Then, we adopted a baby that was born addicted to heroin. School teachers from pre-school on immediately suggested she had ADHD and needed meds. We tried everything to no avail. We finally tried meds last year (4th grade) and she is an excellent student.

Before, we would sit her down to read and she would just shake and wiggle for the entire time. Now, she reads past her required time.

Yeah, and the gremlins sneak into the scary machines at night so they can paint the brain scans differently.

Sure.

And how many of these kids have actually had a brain scan?

The question is not whether or not ADHD exists; it's whether or not it's hugely overdiagnosed.

my neighbor was a social worker for a school. She recently quit her job party due to the pressure she was under to diagnose kids with ADHD.

What state allows school social workers to make a medical diagnosis?

Yeah, I'm calling BS on your story...

I am certain I would have been pumped full of Ritalin. No doubt.

Me too. My early Conduct Grades were "C", with notes like walks and talks, which meant I was a 7 year old who didn't sit down and shut up for 8 hours a day.

Well Excuse Me!

At 7, I should have had about 4 hours of class mixed with 4 hours of running, jumping, screaming, ... outside.

That is the point of the article, not of the post to which I replied.
