Mosque debate divides Democrats, especially in NY (the rats scatter)

From eastern Long Island to more rural upstate areas, House Democrats have been opposing the construction of a $100 million Islamic center two blocks from the World Trade Center site. More than 2,700 people died there on Sept. 11, 2001, at the hands of Islamic terrorists, and the wound remains fresh for many New Yorkers who are still traumatized by the attacks or who lost loved ones that day.

Well now! Truth in an AP story deserves a little credit, I say. Even has "Islamic terrorists." When was the last time we saw that on the wire services?

It’s been pathetic/hilarious to watch the predictable
‘scurrying’ of some ‘newly-sensitized’ Dems who have come
out “against” the Cordoba House at Ground Zero. Listen closely, though, and you’ll find out that they’re biding their time, flying in a holding pattern, and STILL suggesting it should and could be built somewhere else.
IT SHOULD NOT BE BUILT ANYWHERE ELSE!
THIS will be the new issue. THIS is the issue that must be pushed NOW. Imam Rauf and his group may help in this if they wash their hands of the whole project once the building is definitively denied in the location they so fondly desired. But I think the ‘dialogue’
about the fate of their Emporium is going to go on a bit longer. They are making noises now (read Daisy Khan’s interview with Sally Quinn in the WaPo yesterday) that this is “just too important, we can’t quit now, too much is at stake”.
And isn’t it equally Pathetic/Hilarious that TWO of the quoted voices on the issue in the past week have been from FORMER chairs
of both the DNC and RNC-—Howard Dean and Ed Gillespie.
Dean is sounding like a Republican , though, and Gillespie is sounding for all the world like a Democrat. They are acting as surrogates, of course, doing the things political operatives do.

I wonder if these ground zero mosque supporters would have supported a militia member church at Oklahoma City after Timothy McVeigh broke ground?

If it would have been the Aryan Nations responsible for the trade center bombings would they support a Church of Jesus Christ Christian at the site?
